I'm fond of the central story of a young woman making peace with her past as she prepares to establish her future. The whole thing does strike me at times as a little too quirky for its own good, and the political "subtext" is too on the nose, but all in all a well observed portrayal of grace in the midst of dysfunction.

"Voted as Best Film of 2016 by Richard Brody, film critic at the New Yorker". Good job prospects for the aspiring critics out there in the near future! Not as bad as my rating's tier suggests, though. First part was charming.

Builds a comfortable atmosphere, the characters are strong, and it seems to be going somewhere - until the climax takes a swerve for the absurd, and it isn't able to pull it off. The political subtext is annoying and distracting as well. Addison Timlin gives a great performance, and much of what the film succeeds at is because of her.

For such an odd little story, most of this film feels very genuine. An honest coming-of-age about a twenty something seem to be a rare breed recently, in spite of the endless attempts. The 90 minute runtime is genius, as a longer film would have had to flesh out more of the undercurrent of disfunction. This task would have likely made things fall apart.
