The 1800s looked uncomfortable. Christian Bale radiates this odd sexual energy in this film.

The completion of Jo's romantic arc doesn't sit quite right but that's about the only thing that feels off (well, that and Bale's goatee) in this cohesive and cozy (but still poignant and emotional: see the gift for Beth) family journey through life and love and the blasted patriarchy ("You should have been a lawyer, Miss March" "I should have been a great many things, Mr. Mayer"). Dunst's adorable Amy and Ryder's moody Jo ("I just know I'll never fit in anywhere") are two standout turns.

Firrt-rate version of Alcott's classic. Wonderful cast, high-quality family film, fine music score by Thomas Newman. Ryder is wonderful as Jo March.

It was a nice little film. Very conventional, but pleasing nonetheless. It had a whole host of actors I like in it, including some nice surprises like Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne and Eric Stoltz. It didn't wow me but it was nice enough and I can see why others like it.

Flat-out masterful adaptation; arriving during the peak of 90s Merchant-Ivory, it has the same classy and cozy sheen of the best of them; artfully and sardonically comments on the mores and standards of the time with a defiant feminist bent (thanks to Sarandon’s wonderful Marmee), while remaining true and genuine to its time and place. Ryder and Dunst stand-out with the meatier (and more interesting) roles, but even Danes and Alvarado bring life to their somewhat paler and reactive characters.

It is very much not my type of movie, but it does it's thing so well that I have to admire it and did enjoy it. The characters are well developed and the actors are strong enough to get them through the writer placed obstacles while maintaining a sense of agency and humanity. It's a sweet enjoyable story with just enough turmoil to keep it from being pure fantasy.

While this didn't have the pacing and spectacle of the 2019 version it does stick closer to the books. The acting over all is great and I liked most of the actor choices.

This was better than I thought it'd be. Winona Ryder should have stayed form historical drama. She never had the chops.

Adore, adore, adore this movie! It really has a warm feeling about it and great dynamics! I had to take off a few points simply because a few liberties were taken in the adaptation, and a few character changes seem to occur a tad quickly. But, it's still a delightful film and a true favorite!

Ok. So i watched this with indifference. The only time when it stirred me into emotion was when Laurie married Amy. Am I the only one who thinks these 2 are scumbags?

Astonishing warmth radiates from the relationship of the girls who are superbly portrayed by this cast of future stars. Although Little Women is a fairly conventional Christmas tale, it's one which is both satisfyingly inspiriting and melancholic in equal measures.

Does it make me gay if I actually really like this film? It was one of my mom's favorites, so it was watched in our house off-and-on throughout my teenage years.

I haven't read the novel, but it would seem that Gerwig has taken a lot of her inspiration from this film, as many of the scenes are very similar. Though I think Gerwig's adaptation is the better film, I actually think that I prefer this cast.

Gillian Armstrong's adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel has largely been overshadowed by Great Gerwig's more recent adaptation, which is really a shame because Armstrong does so much right here. It's a gorgeous looking film down to the smallest details of costume and production design. It's a real ensemble film, giving equal weight to all the characters. All of the performances are really strong.

Certainly the 'good' 90s in Hollywood filmmaking. Faithful and a loving adaptation of the book, with immaculate details, acting, and direction.

Pretty sure I've seen this twice and I vaguely remember it. I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't exactly thrilled.
