Live and Let Die is the first and possibly the best Bond film of the Roger Moore era. Following the previous one or two below par Bond films, Roger Moore brought something new and refreshing. And with an equal measure of humour and charm he convincingly changed the dynamic of the character and comfortably made it his own. Jane Seymour & Yaphet Kotto are both worthy additions too. From the unforgetable Alligator scene to the incredible speed boat chases, Live and Let Die offers complete escapism.

Roger Moore's debut film is a bold, cool and unique Bond. The series' probes into supernatural and blaxploitation best not be repeated, but as one-time experiments, they're great. The music and title song are awesome, Yaphet Kotto brings stylish charisma as the villain (with great henchmen Baron Samedi and Tee-Hee), the boat chase and alligator escape rock, and Jane Saymour, wow! Damn if Rog ain't charismatic right out of the gate. This film oozes 70s cool. (Ytadel's series ranking: #6 of 24)

Has some really unique and different moments for a Bond film and it has a lot of familiar stuff to keep fans engaged. The villain death is an all time classic scene, so funny. The boat chase scene is fun but it's mixed with an attempt at humor with the sheriff that fails miserably. Moore's Bond was almost too cool at times but it worked for me overall. The Bond girl was the most useless of the series so far but her titties were hanging out the entire movie so it's tough to hate.

Having grown up on Moore's later films, seeing him here doesn't bother me but I can see why my parents preferred Connery since Moore's "prettier". Solitaire could be much cooler but her magic's barely used. Harlem gangsters & voodoo are new, but it results in many stereotypes & the first half is often dull. The best parts are ridiculous but fun involving alligators & a speedboat chase that often takes place on land w/ comic relief that seemed to have inspired Smokey & the Bandit.

Announces Moore as the Bond of the 1970s. All you needed was a wah-pedal-heavy funk theme, though the Paul McCartney song is probably the best of the whole series. I appreciate settings in which Bond is out of his element, even if the set pieces aren't always thrilling. The voodoo element and semi-omnipresent drug ring are interesting. Also, Sheriff J.W. Pepper is the Jar Jar Binks of the series.

When not subjected to lengthy and boring gimmick driven chase scenes, "Live and Let Die" proves it is a unique and well done bond outing. The problem is, however, that those chase scenes are too numerous to raise this movie out of a pit of average-ness.

A new and very different Bond in Roger Moore. Here a fairly mundane plot works well throughout mixing the Voodoo of Haiti and Harlem with good old fashioned drugs running. One of the less camped up deliveries by Moore and for me his best. Slightly less in the way of locations and glamour but still packed with action and runs along at a great pace. Wonderful cameo character of a Louisianna sherrif tops it all off.

Entertaining Bond film is perhaps a little too long and silly at times, but novelty of Moore's very British Bond in jive-talking 70s America is endearing, and director Hamilton stages some clever running gags (the New Orleans funeral, 'sheer magnetism' etc.) Amusing sequence with M and Moneypenny visiting Bond in his apartment for a post-coitus coffee; segment with James as redneck Sheriff Pepper causes a few winces, but still goofily enjoyable. Highlighted by McCartney's great title theme.

A personal favourite of mine among the Bond films with a fun Blaxploitation dimension and some kind of 'essence of early 1970s' cultural value. But it suffers from a 'Law of Eternal Return' as the script just keeps recycling the same formula (Bond goes here, Bond gets caught, Bond gets away) through all three acts.

The Blaxploitation Bond. Roger Moore has sex, but he's not as horny as Connery. It's almost like sex is a duty he has to fulfill. I used to really dislike the theme of this film, even before I knew what it was from, but I have grown to love it.

I didn't mind the voodoo stuff, but some of this is a little over the top. The chase scene was way too long, and as much as I wished there was more comedy in previous Bond films, I'm not sure depicting a bunch of cops as idiots was the way to go.

Well this is kinda out-dated now - Bond meets Blaxploitation was always going to be a recipe for racism but thankfully the film is kinda entertaining enough to make up for all the horrendous stereotypes. The film's plot jumps around a lot without much in the way of sense, but the setpieces are big and fun. Roger Moore does well as a lighter Bond, and the theme song is one of the best - which helps cause it's in like every fucking scene. Baron Samedi is great too, despite being racist as fuck!

You know, I actually really enjoyed this. I did live in Louisiana for awhile, so it helped that I was predisposed to enjoy the settings and the voodoo themes. I'll freely admit that a lot of the characters are walking stereotypes and that the villain is not all that memorable, but there are some absolutely classic Bond set pieces here, such as the crocodile ranch, the boat chase, the sacrificial cult, the funeral parade - and, of course, the best Bond theme ever courtesy of Paul McCartney.

Live and Let Die is a mixed bag. Moore makes his entrance as Bond, doing a good job. Seymour is pretty & doe-eyed fitting the mould of (that era's) Bond girl. The action & cinematography are improved. Unfortunately, the boat-chase set-piece goes on for too long. The biggest problem are the villains, who are a cabal of black people in a film set in the US during the Black Panther movement; it seems indelicate. Kotto is great at chewing scenery, but his character suffers doing anything physical.

James Bond goes blaxploitation! Or maybe that's whitesploitation (heehee!). Anyway, pretty fun throughout, although Roger Moore makes for an oddly wan presence. He has the look and everything--and he's certainly the first one I'd think of to play Bond--but somehow he seems to be sleepwalking through the production, and lacks the conviction of Connery or even Lazenby (although things improve in the second half). Anyway, the boat race was great fun. And Jane Seymour is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Apparently Ian Fleming's Tintin au Congo (Muganga ...Kananga...you know). I kept thinking "man, this'd be pretty cool if Pam Grier was playing Bond" but no such luck. Still, Roger Moore gets the job done, Jane Seymour is gorgeous, the henchmen are fun, and that first funeral procession may be my all-time favorite Bond scene. Sadly, it's littered with dull chase sequences and overall is probably the worst Bond until License To Kill.

Roger Moore debuts in a Bond movie that flirts with blaxploitation. It's pretty funny, the villain is black, all his henchmen are black, hell, even the scientists developing weapons for him are black. But Bond manages to find the ONE white girl in their whole establishment and has to rescue her.

My least favorite Bond. Totally great technically, but the plot involves both voodoo (which is rarely a good idea in film) and a bad brotha whose goal is to deal smack to the kids. It's still totally watchable, if you think of it as a Dukes of Hazzard horror-comedy.

Probably Moore's best Bond performance, not that that's a ringing endorsement. The rest of the film ranges from lacklustre - the plot and dull direction, to outright awful - Kotto's death scene and Sheriff Pepper who is an easy contender for the worst character ever to appear on film. Jane Seymour as an excellent Bond girl is a small upside, but not enough to save this.

Take the abominably unfunny Sheriff Pepper out of the equation and this would probably have received a pass from me on account of Jane Seymour and the blaxploitation-y vibe. It seems logical to follow up on the evil gays from the last Bond with evil funky black people. Moore delivers as Bond and Seymour is one of the most gorgeous Bond girls. The villains are solid and the demise of Kotto is epically stupid. The main problem with the Moore films is the terrible humor, this time brought by Sheriff Pepper, my nomination for the worst character in cinema history.

This movie is god-awfully racists. Really manages to hit every shameful stereotype. And it's a crying shame, because it's otherwise a good movie. A solid plot (for the franchise) with a lot of interesting twists and turns, even if it does drag out for about 20 minutes too long. And I like gin-rummy-playing-Bond played by Moore a lot better than dub-con-Bond played by Connery.

In some ways, Bond in Harlem is the most the bizarre locale we've ever seen him in. Some solid aspects to this edition, but some real strange inclusions. The boat chase sums it up nicely in that the compelling action is regularly undermined by all the screen time given to the loudmouth caricature of a sherriff

Probably the best example is Bondploitation ever. Not only is this a wimpier, less clever and hornier Bond, his methods are beyond questionable; his clever super spy way of bedding Solitaire is a minuscule step above lacing her drink with rufies and handcuffing her to the water heater.

First Moore outing adds more humor to the mix, but it's still quite low-key when compared to later Moore entries. I like the blaxploitation vibe of this one; the clothes and mixing of urban and exotic locations. Yaphet Kotto makes an interesting bad guy. On the down side: the film is too long and IMO they could have trimmed the scenes with J.W. Pepper.

While being quite different from other Bond movies in that the baddie is really just after selling drugs, there is amble xenophobia that irks me. On top of that, Jane Seymour really just serves to be slut-shamed that happens to be fairly important to the plot. Still, there are few set pieces that make this a pretty decent Moore-era Bond. The prolonged speed boat race is worth a watch.

It comes off as fun and unique as an introduction to a new Bond. I guess Lazenby and Diamonds are Forever sort of softened the audience to a more camp and comedic Bond, though I imagine it must have still been a shock. It's a bit disconcerting at times (the Blaxpoitation). At the end of the day, the bad guys were charismatic and had a fun complex operation going only Bond could have stopped (tho he did get caught many times). The henchmen are memorable, the action scenes too. They got gators

Finally giving the Roger Moore bond movies a long overdue chance and I found this to be a fun, harmless and ultimately original entry in the series. They really tried out some cool stuff like the boat chase and the ultimate death scene is a thing of beauty. Moore might not hold a candle to Connery as a leading man, but he has 6 more movies to grow on me. As for Jane Seymour, "Ja, hallowkes" as we say where I'm from.

All the bad parts of Diamonds are Forever but with less of the good stuff. The story is a meandering mess with no forward momentum, and it doesn't help that the non-Bond acting is the weakest by far. There is one good sequence, a boat chase in the bayou, and even it is undermined by terrible comic relief. The women are given the worst parts of any Bond movie, which undermines a big part of the dynamic. It still has interesting concepts, but they are pieced together like Frankenstein's monster.

Roger Moore step to the shoes of Sean Connery in a James Bond film where the main villain is a gangster trying to dominate world's drug business. Plot could be considered as a let-down after previous bigger-than-life Bond enemies but Live and Let Die manages to be entertaining. The boat action scene in the middle of the film is very well excuted, Yaphet Kotto is suitable nasty as the main villain and the theme song made by Paul McCartney and Wings is one of the best in the entire series.

With Guy Hamilton once again at the helm but with Roger Moore on board for the first time as 007, "Live and Let Die" is easily a very fine first appearance for the charming actor. Moore is very convincing as Bond and successfully inaugurates the more humorous period of the franchise. He's got the charms, he's got the guts and he's got the wits. The film has lots of classic scenes too, such as the one with the crocodiles, or the epic boat chase that followed it. The strong beginning of a new era.

It's just glorious film making. A genuine and sincere attempt to offer the world some fun blockbuster fantasy entertainment. The stunts feel fresh, only the speed boat chase slows things down, and Bond is as smooth as ever. Tracking back and forth to America means it doesn't quite have the glossy, internationalist, exotic paradise travelogue vibe that others in the series have, and the camp ironic tone veers very very close to outright parody and absurdism.

Throughout this movie I thought, let Bond live and then at other times I thought they should just let him die. I have mixed emotions about this James Bond film. It has a few good parts and a great Bond-Girl (Jane Seymour) but I really didn't connect with the heroin-dealing bad guy Kananga. I also must admit Roger Moore is one of my least favorite Bonds. I actually kind of liked this movie for the first hour, despite the absurdly misguided racial overtones. Then it goes on too long -- though they all do -- and introduces the Jar Jar Binks of the 1970s. Roger Moore can deliver a quip, but he always has the body language of a 12 year old boy whose dad is fifteen minutes late picking him up from soccer practice. I don't have high hopes for the rest of these.

Sir Rog was unfortunate enough to make his debut as 007 in a Bond movie that some love to hate for socio-politic reasons; but you can't rewrite the past to suit the political needs of the present. Apart from toning down the sadism of Fleming's novel, this is remarkably faithful to its source material and a fair amount of fun if white folks can set aside their phony guilt and just settle back for the ride. Hamilton moves things along at a clip -- and the series moves into the '70s with flair.
