While there are no boobies, I think the film accurately captures the difficulty of being born with AIDS in a country with no social safety net as it goes through a war. When Lola started crying after she lost both her mother and father to a landmine, I nearly lost it. Here is an 8 year old kid with not much life left to go. Really shows you how lucky some of us are

All points to the natural magnetism and screen charisma of Greta Gerwig, because she's just about the only thing I can compliment here (though I suppose Hamish Linklater was alright too). The movie isn't offensively bad or anything, but it represents a "slice of life" story of the worst kinds of people. There are no real actual problems here, and Lola's climactic blow-up screamfest is so (intentionally? I hope?) awkward that I hated her and everyone else in this movie for enabling her garbage.

The more you like Greta Gerwig, the more you'll like this.

I've seen a lot of things but this must have been the most horrible movie experience in my whole life. To name just a few flaws: There is no plot, the actors don't act , the characters are ridiculous, bland stereotypes and the music is in your face (it begins before the scene and you know instantly what the next scene will be about). Why 5 points? I'm not that old - I might be surprised and find something even worse one day.

"A year in the life of a young woman unhappy in love and uncertain in career, Lola Versus could easily be faulted for the narrowness of its worldview." - Andrew Schenker

I just love Greta Gerwig. In fact, at points, I think she is one with my spirit. This movie is pretty much a contrived mess with some witty one-liners and a nice catchy soundtrack. Enjoyable for a light movie, but nothing new or compelling.

An egoistical, self-indulgent person with no self-control has a tough time? Wow, what a great message. No chemistry between any of the actors. Poor dialogue and writing. Is anybody at work or are all the characters in the film constantly walking around at day time with a main activity of talking to each other? Zoe Lister-Jones is misused with her forced comedic relief, she is capable of so much more (i.e. Life in Pieces). At least the film wins in the "Most awkward sex scene" category.

This is an oft-repeated story that is on this occasion mostly forgettable. Gerwig doing her usual thing which given the right circumstances works very well (see 'France Ha' which was released in the same year) but unfortunately that is not the case here.

On one hand Greta Gerwig is oh so charming, but on the other hand the movie was clearly trying to hard to be cool when the writing clearly wasn't on that level. The sound track is slightly above average and the cinematography was surprisingly good in places. Still it never really managed to escape its trite and contrived Rom-Comness. You could do better, but its not bad for something very light and easy.

Fun indie rom-com enhanced tenfold by the charismatic Greta Gerwig.
