Tomisaburo Wakayama plays Ogami Itto, assassin for hire who is also being pursued by the evil Yagyu clan. With the help of his young son and his tricked out, weapons-laden baby cart, Itto destroys his enemies, usually in a geyser of blood. A wonderful series of six bloody chanbara films.

The first misstep in the entire series. Bare in mind that the co-writer of this Kazuo Koike, who also wrote the original manga, is notorious for his disregard for good taste, and more importantly, cohesive narratives. Here that factor may have actually been an issue with a lengthy and ridiculous method of expedition which, despite being hilarious at first, really undermines the film. After that, the film gets better but it still feels like a dull mess which could have been deleted from the serie

Cinematography and action are on point as usual but the story wasn't interesting enough for me. The subplot with the pickpocketer was more interesting yet almost unnecessary.

By far the lamest of any of the Lone Wolf and Cub stories. The writers should be ashamed of this ridiculous story of suicide testers. It gets even worse with more idiotic lyrics when he meets the Abbot. The kid taking a beating to keep a promise was cute. The story continues to degrade until it becomes a complete mockery of all previous installments. The water battle was very lame. This is by far the worst of the series. Tons of red paint, aka gore. I am a fan, but this was almost lousy.

Misumi returns after an underwhelming fourth entry from Saito. Includes the best actions sequences in the series, but is somewhat encumbered by scenes of lengthy explication. Close to Baby Cart to Hades in terms of overall quality.

The best Lone Wolf and Cub film. There aren't many samurai movies that can beat this one.

How does the Shadow Yagyu clan still have power? Surely Ogami has killed all of them by now. This time he literally beats them in his underpants. Not the best of the films though, and it feels surprisingly game-y for a movie from before games were invented: Ogami meets someone, stabs them, they tell him their life story before dying, he moves on to the next enemy encounter.

My least favorite of the series. Some good drama with Daigoro but that's mostly just a self-contained scene. The main plot didn't work so well and the action was below this series' high standard. The music is notably weaker in this one too. All the new music is bad and even the badass main theme song is remixed and made significantly less cool. Also, Ogami Itto spends too much of this one with his booty out in his big gray girdle. Let my man put some clothes on before he has to fight, goddamn

I read a short description: "samurai assassin roams the countryside of Japan with a fucking baby in tow". How could I not. And this one more than met expectations. The swordplay, the story, the humor. Very tight film, which I always appreciate. Entertaining. I will definitely be watching the rest of the series.

Tomisaburô Wakayama returns as Ogami Itto in the fifth film in the series. This time he needs to kill a succession of men in order to gain enough information to identify and kill his main target, the mad leader of a clan leading it into ruin. This is not really one of the better films in the series as the focus shifts a bit from action towards a fairly intricate and confusing plot.

Whatever semblance of cheap entertainment value the series once had for me is totally gone by this fifth installment. Prior to his bravely decapitating a cowering mother and child in the less-than-exciting finale, most of Ogami's opponents in this literally ask him to kill them. We're supposed to believe that he's a skilled swordsman, but there isn't really any swordplay - he just always lands the first blow against very reckless attackers. Mostly regurgitates elements of the previous films.
