LONG WEEKEND centres on a couple who are at a bad point in their relationship - constant bickering, arguing, fighting. A chance to get away camping over a long weekend is surely the cure to their problems? No. It just adds to them. The movie cleverley uses the surrounding elements to create a very eery atmosphere. The tension slowly builds to a climax that you will never see coming. (Amazon.com, customer review by William)

Pretty simple but neat man versus nature thriller. The moral of the story; do not piss off Mother Nature, because she can be a cranky bitch. A few suspenseful scenes, good use of audio and I like how the makers managed to make a manatee somewhat creepy.

Well done thriller. Perfectly captures the mood of a disintegrating relationship.

This film shot in Melbourne and New South Wales (TOO SOON!) focuses on man's destruction of nature (TOO SOON!). Lesson learned, right?

An interesting concept. Hargreaves and Behet give such strung-up and sweaty performances it's kind of like Straw Dogs without the bad guys, and there's maybe a hint of Roeg... but Hitchcock's "The Birds" springs to mind more than anything - if you didn't find that movie too ridiculous, you'll like Long Weekend too. To me it's a shame that it goes over-the-top, especially the ending, but it's effective most of the time.

Fantastic waking nightmare of a camping trip. Moral of the story: nature will fight back, and it will win.

Very dark and tense. Loved that scream sound effect.

I get that it's done to enhance tension but I don't like when a movie intentionally keep the audience in the dark of something all the characters are aware of just for the sake of a slow reveal that ends up pretty meaningless. It doesn't help that this choice makes the two characters super annoying and hard to relate to, which means that I care very little about their fate. The build up is really well done and leads to some good creepy moments, but on the whole I just didn't care much.

Tedious but well written. Has a few creepy scenes. As an American, I found the Australian wildlife & locale rather interesting.

Went on for several minutes too long (although the finale was quite amusing).

Intensely dislikeable couple goes camping for a weekend despite the fact that they completely resent each other. They yell a lot and then Australia tries to kill them. The 'nature-horror' and finale sequence are quite effective but the marital drama doesn't do much for me.

An immensely unlikable couple is killed by the natural world, just not fast enough.

This offbeat Australian thriller is like a more serious version of _Frogs_. Sometimes this is unintentionally funny, but it's legitimately scary and suspenseful as well.

Not so much man versus nature as man falling out with nature, and indeed man falling out with woman. The film also portrays nature as a reflection of man, with Eggleston intent on showing that this never ends well (and will never end well) for either party. Make no mistake, this film is no caricature, it's much closer to the truth than we'd like to admit or realise. The sound design is disturbing and the pacing is impeccable, which combine to create maximum suspense for the viewer.

A rather standard and formulaic horror film that verges on schlock, but it's elevated by the subtlety of its terror, as well as the good performances and rather clever screenplay. As it usually goes with horror films, the tension ramps up in the last act and powerfully draws you in, due to some good directing, editing, and use of the Australian outback. This is one to watch at night when you go camping.

Maybe is the acting was better I might've liked this a bit more because for most of this I was equal parts bored and annoyed. With the characters being such unlikable assholes and the acting being as bad as it was I was really struggling not to turn this off after enduring 60 minutes. I pushed through because I heard that it had a great final act...It wasn't worth it.

A couple's relationship goes sour on a remote Australian beach. It's got something - it's pretty tense, the eerie locations are beautifully filmed and the dynamic between the couple is convincing - but it's let down at times by some cheap effects.

Eerie and haunting "nature fights back" film from Australia. Takes great use of the location and sounds of the nature. Comparisons to Nicolas Roeg are quite fitting.
