Corman might still be kicking around thirty years after the fact, but even in '89 he was past his heyday--though that may be an overgenerous term. With Corman, though, you know what you're getting: cut rate everything delivering cheap, and often ineffective thrills. I've seen worse movies, but let's be honest, I've seen some real epic shitfests, and you'd probably be better off watching nothing than watching this.

In college my roommate smoked too many bowls of seriously rancid weed, became super paranoid, thought he became God, and by definition kidnapped another impaired person and hid him in our closet. He sobered up like Dorothy returning from Oz. That's the plot of this movie, but with water.

One of those movies that's so dull that even a valiant MST effort can't really salvage it.

Everyone seems so busy pointing out that this is a ripoff of The Abyss, nobody's talking about how Prometheus is a shot-for-shot remake of Lords of the Deep IN SPACE.

Lackluster mix of The Abyss and The Thing that fails to live up to the potential of combing those two properties. Stiffly acted and unengaging.

While this movie isn't well-made, it has some fundamental virtues. The premise and the basic plot beats are all solid. The Big Twist gets swallowed up by weird editing and pacing, but it ties in to strong ideas about men's need for control that are still extremely relevant. The alien manages to be genuinely cute, with some honestly emotional moments. It's still cheap and cheesy, but heck, I'd watch a remake.

Decent premise with zero budget.

Watched this because of Mystery Science Theatre 3000... which made it hilarious. I don't think I would have been able to get through even 30 minutes of this on its own... except I must give a shout-out to the dope 80s work jumpsuit outfits. Love the magenta triangle buttons!

The trippy dreams, the monsters, and the jumpsuits are all terrible. The twist really isn't done well. MST3K: 60
