It reeks of U.S. noirs made 8-12 years prior, but its tight-aggressive style outdoes the vast majority of them. The carotid artery of Amargos are the pulsing neon lights, the dripping swat, the bottled up panic. This Argentinian outer refinement and elegance is the topsoil under which actual bodies rot, and actual nightmares come to life. Beautiful dream sequences, exquisite compositions that remind me of John Alton, and restrained performances are put to good use in this must-see film noir.
