Enjoyed this quite a bit more than As I Was Moving, maybe because of a clearer structure or maybe it's that the subject of cultural exile and finding one's place resonates a lot more strongly for me than memories of married family life. I love his narration, it feels very natural, insightful, asking questions and providing musings, without pretending to have an answer. It is a bit meandering and slow, and I wish Mekas's narration was more present, but on the whole I quite enjoyed it.

Every cinephile needs to see at least one Jonas Mekas film. They do tend to resemble each other, but nothing else. In Lost, Lost, Lost he conveys his experience of immigration from Lithuania to New York City. In his usual fashion, he does it through clips from the seemingly endless footage he took of his life on a grainy 8mm, interspersed with text inserts and overdubbed with sporadic music and his by-turns brooding and partly-sunny voice-over narration. You see a lot of HIM in this one.

Less interesting than Mekas' other epics, but not without it's merits.

Great choice for a sick day. More of a political slant to this one, although Mekas himself maintains poetic authority and the 'privilege' of a documentarists role to justify disavowing a stated political stance, seemingly altogether. Which is just how I'll have it, if I can...
