The subject of this program is one that, in my view, really requires both analytical ability and critical courage, rather than well-meaning sympathy. Consequently, all of the insights to be found here are proffered by the anorexics, which is to say that none of the insights come from those treating them or from Theroux. While this viewer is no expert in the treatment of this condition, he is also far from convinced that current approaches have come to grips with the underlying causes.

The subjects are the highlight here, speaking in frank and open interviews about their condition. They're so aware it's irrational OCD rather than an image thing that Louis even feels comfortable enough to react honestly to one of them. The criticism - as with many of the more recent Therouxs - is the striking lack of insight into the bigger picture. Is this a cure or just a treatment? How many fully recover? What's in store for the future? These, and many other questions, are never answered.
