Prison drama may only be a notch above the average TV movie, but is worth seeing for Madigan's excellent (and empathetic) evocation of a fiery lost soul; at its best in the first two acts detailing a fairly standard, but admirably low-key, study of violent prison life, before tipping over into a melodramatic courtroom climax. Bridges fares well in support as a somewhat sympathetic prison guard.
