Was amnesia among women really as widespread in the ‘40s as Hollywood would have us believe? Jones plays another of her pure young things. This time her trademark breathy-voiced simpering which as usual comes across as mentally deficient, is due to memory loss. The always solid Cotten tries vainly to salvage this while Cooper phones in another of her chairbound posh battleaxes. The title tune is an infuriating ear worm.

Psychological romance based on letters written during the war and effecting the marriage of a young bride and the man who wrote them. Liked the premise, but it's one where you can't help but think what someone like Hitchcock could do with this material, for there are elements of mystique and mental torture which doesn't shine as bright as it should have. William Dieterle was a very capable director, but some of the important aspects feels half-tweaked. Doesn't stop it from being a likable piece.
