In 1981 in L.A., Monica moves in next door to Quincy. They're 11, and both want to play in the NBA, just like Quincy's dad. Their love-hate relationship lasts into high school, with Monica's edge and Quincy's top-dog attitude separating them, except when Quincy's parents argue and he climbs through Monica's window to sleep on the floor... This is one my all time favorite movies. This instant classic has all of the elements that make a great film. This is a love story about two people who live and breathe for only one reason, basketball.Well that is of course until they find another purpose for life in a thing called love. This film questions whether or not a person can love two things equally and not show favor over the other while they both pull at your heart and mind. In case you're still searching for an answer, watch the film.

Fresh & serviceable, with a decent supporting cast. The important thing missing is that the movies fails to draw the viewer into a genuine feeling. Particularly weak are the "talk" scenes with the parents that don't seem to add anything to the picture.

A perceptive and mature romance that is quietly revolutionary in its depiction of Monica and how she refuses to compromise or settle. Has a lot to say about the divide between gender in athletics - and about the choice between professional and home life - but is also just a tender, evocatively-told love story with several satisfying scenes.

Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps both give good performances in this film. The script has several good scenes and moments but also some predictable ones. Overall I would recommend this film.

Just a movie with a lot of love. For its world and the people the inhabit said world. Ooozes those good cinema feelings. Love the looks and the tunes and what a beautiful ending at the forum. Effortlessly directed in the best way

This movie really holds up well. Outside of a few corny and poorly written lines it's a well directed love story that tackles some themes beyond what you would expect it to.

Be sure to stay for the post-credits "overtime" section in which they go through a messy divorce.

An unconventional romance with a refreshing look at the lives of athletes. Omar Epps is fine but it is Sanaa Lathan who gives a fierce character to root for. I'm not sure if the 4th act is totally successful but everything before it is pretty great.

SPOILERS. Quincy finds out that the All State Man cheated on his mother so he immediately cheats on his girlfriend. And Monica is horribly mean to her mother because she's a stay at home mom. So neither in the couple are likeable, and Omar Epps was not believable as a basketball star, he looked to be 5'8''. At least Dennis Haysbert is 6'4''.

A decent little love story. Nothing amazing but well acted and filmed. If you have to let your girlfriend rent a chick flick, this wouldn't be a bad choice.

Another cheesy movie where they blend sports and emotional crap together so men and women will watch the same movie. Its not bad though
