For what it is, it's a cute movie. It's a nice blend of cheesy teen romance and creature feature. The story did get a little slow sometimes, but the fun characters and plot made up for it.

A pleasant surprise. O'Brien was annoying since his incompetence made him useless in the new world. I suppose he's an audience surrogate. The monsters were neat and colorful even if they didn't make sense. Good Boy. Great crab fight. The lack of permanence in characters made this a better journey. Good message about the helpful friends he had at his home bunker the whole time. I'd watch a sequel. Fav scene: watching jellyfish with Mavis peacefully winding down playing music.

I really enjoyed this silly little movie. A few of the monsters were a bit odd but the action and drama were fun and entertaining. I liked the characters and it is a quality production, however, a little more care could have been given to the designs for some of the monsters. It has some very satisfying moments, but also a few roll your eyes moments. Worthwhile and enjoyable.

You know that team film, where the protagonist narrates his self-important story? Well it's that, plus some left over CG ideas from Men in Black. Why do all CG monsters have to growl open-mouthed at the camera?

Well it is watchable but why do films nowadays feel so empty? The post-apocalyptic world with wonderful, big monsters is charming and enjoyable. Especially the snail is awesome. The whole pirate scene was predictable and childish. But hey, I got entertained, didn't I?

Pretty good post-apocalyptic movie. Not as funny as you might expect, but it has a few laughs. Steady action, good ending, good stuff.

Love and Monsters delivers on a few good ideas as it mashes Fallout, Zombieland, and Kaiju, but middling direction (or possibly something else) keeps it from being more than just the sum of its parts. The film is quite pretty, the monsters and scenery bright and colourful, and the plot flows well. The cast is decent but no one really stands out, including the lead O'Brien rendering the film a little immemorable. Watchable, sweet though not always convincing; I can't say it left an impression.

At this point, I think it's no secret I'm a slobbering Dylan O'Brien fan. A few months later, O'Brien was in another film that saw him away from his regular posse and plunked down with a real Hollywood A-lister, Michael Rooker. In a film that looked like The Hunger Games meets The Hangover (two titles that should never appear in the same sentence), I was again anxious to see if O'Brien could pull it off again.
