Love on the Run

The narrative has some holes, but that's not so important in a comedy and the script does enough inventive things with the situations it sets up to make it worth going along. Gable is his usual smarmy and charming, which is always fun to watch and Crawford lights it up with a great mix of strength and vulnerability. It doesn't have the quick pace of top tier screwball, but the dialogue is pretty sharp and funny. Tone stands out in his supporting role too.

Is this Clark Gable being punished once again by MGM? As this was basically the same movie as It Happened One Night (1934), but with a terrible script! And to top it off they didn't care to wrap off the spy sub-plot that had followed them on the run. The rivalry between Gable & Tone was cute and Donald Meek as the crazy ghost friendly caretaker was the highlights! Crawford was pretty, but that was about it. very empty performance from her, which again can be credited to the script!
