Slow-moving, uncomfortably creepy, and oozing a sense of wrongness; descriptions used by the police to track me down as well as the main reasons to watch Lovely Molly. Lodge really carries the movie and her downward spiral into paranoia, darkness and resurging trauma was effective most of the time. There wasn't quite enough coherence to keep the tension going, but it gave me chills and, totally unrelated, I had to watch some comedy stuff afterwards before heading to bed I'M NOT A WUSS HONEST

Massively underrated film that doesn't succumb to the two biggest sins of shitty modern horror: over-explanation and jump scares. Creepy and atmospheric, and it has a score by Tortoise, come on dude.

Relentlessly nihilistic examination of the hereditary nature of abuse. Offers no hope and is arguably exploitative in its themes, but it's a well acted and deeply unnerving horror featuring perhaps the creepiest shot in horror history.

A lovely film that, while not straying too far from the conventional horror path, does manage to feel fresh and exciting every step of the way. It does not rely on 'jump scares' which make it a much more mature and respectable film. The ambient soundtrack is the star of the show here and creates an unsettling atmosphere which will send shivers down your spine. Ultimately though Lovely Molly takes more than it gives and by the time the credits roll you're left with an unresolved film.

A molestation drama wrapped in a possession flick draped with a handkerchief smashed with a hammer and presented with sixty percent of the pieces missing. The remaining enigma is unsatisfying but can entertain one attempting to fill in the missing portions via intrigue alone. The fan theorist's horror film.

Genuinely creepy, but utterly disappointing. Made me hate static noise even more than I already did...which is amazing because it is hard to hate anything more than static noise. Okay maybe racism. And boy bands. But static noise is right up there.

Well above average for horror, and certainly does do well to avoid jump scares and over-explanation. There is commendable effort to refresh the usual elements of creepiness, and symbolism abounds but it's all very subtle. Still, it doesn't wholly escape familiar stylistic or even thematic territory, and it suffers from the same sterility and lack of grit as many others in the genre.

Troche chaotyczne, bez pomyslu. Irytujace, nieprzekonywujace zachowanie bohaterow (pierwszo i drugoplanowych). Od strony wizualnej i aktorskiej zaledwie do zniesienia. Ogolnie - strata czasu, przecietniak jakich wiele.

Thematically and narratively bankrupt. Further, the cinematography and direction are just not at all well thought out.

Looks lovely, but everything else is a stereotypical "white family in spooky house" movie under a veneer of shock imagery.

The bones of it were solid but the script full of redundancies -remind us she's her sister again ffs! A bit more faith in the viewer, a bit more subtlety in it's mix of illness/trauma/supernatural stuff and it could have been pretty good. Sort of a more ambitious -but less satisfying- ABSENTIA (2011)

Could have been better if the 2nd half wasn't as cluttered. Overall an enjoyable horror flick. BWP will probably never be topped.

Scared the fuck out of me. "Why aren't we watching Rom-Coms?" "Not ready." My friend just recently went through a break-up. So here we are, watching horror. Lovely Molly gave me chills and I just asked my friend if we could stop. I can put up with a lot of horror but this preys on your imagination. In contrast to the Blair Witch Project - which didn't scare me all at; I didn't grow up in the woods - this movie freaked me out. Ymmv but I'd recommend it.

Interesting take on the supernatural. I get that recommendation because of Flanagan's "Absentia" and although not that similar the atmosphere it is.

"The film's inconsistent, largely bankrupt style is second to how hard and tackily it leans on the horror of child abuse to goose audiences." - Ed Gonzalez

Tries hard and gets a lot right - the creeping dread, the uncertainty of what we're seeing, exactly how much we can trust our eyes (hence the video camera, I guess). But ultimately tries way TOO hard, throwing in a few too many twists and turns while not managing to keep them twisty enough to really surprise. Great performance by Alexandra Holden, though.
