Funny and charming with an enjoyable New Wave feel. The humanity and pain of the characters can be felt without taking away from the ultimate lightheartedness of the film.

Would have been better if there were cool lightsabre battles to break up the drama but overall it was still a good movie.

Good inadvertent testimony to how stultifyingly dull life is in a Communist country, but not much as a film

People seek connection (sex) awkwardly, painfully. Forman shows it with relatable heart, we laugh& we don't quite cry but we reflect.carries magnificent energy even when not much is going on, the energy of youth, the energy of Trying. The pall of melancholy that hangs over it reflects not just youthful (or immature, in the old soldiers case) disappointment but, perhaps, the cloud of communism Loves of a Blonde was made under, a cloud that must have been inhaled before every laugh in those days.

It's funny, all the scene are cleverly executed, and it has some interesting themes as well. First Forman displays the incapacity of authorities, a theme, which he more thoroughly explores in fireman's ball, secondly (and the most dominant of the two) the gap between two generations. The latter theme is bit dragging, but due to the film's length, it's hardly a flaw or something that should be taking into consideration.

Very simple filmmaking. The blend between French New Wave and Italian Neo-Realism is achieved and to an interesting effect; it's charming, light, with some heavier themes only faintly touched upon. The documentary candidness of the majority of the scenes illuminates the few romantic moments spendidly. Use of non-actors, especially the parents, really pays off.

I really enjoyed how Forman picked several situations, which he exploited and drain-juiced. Nothing excessive in this film, particularly when it comes to the cast picks. Oh man, and everything is so subtly synechdocal! Czeched!

A great, bouncy film, starting from the inventive credits sequence. It's very funny, though it gets kinda sad in the end. Good performances from everyone. I love the scene at the dance.

Sweet story and a nice time picture what could happened in 1960's Czechoslovakia. Actually that could happened in any of communist country those days. Though the leading lady was my favorite, the most talented actress was Milada Jezková as boy's mother. Her part was also the best written, if it was written that good. It looked pretty much improvised. The latter half of the movie gave a lot of comedy for otherwise pretty sad story.

There's an interesting slice of life quality to many of the scenes that are sometimes endearing, sometimes a bit much as in the last part.

Sensitive, amusing and touching, if not in fact quietly devastating, comedy-drama about small-scale sufferings that can nevertheless profoundly affect young people, especially when they find themselves caught in a drab and suffocating milieu.

Forman’s entire political being just annoys me and the ideas he espouses about society are not my bag either. Looks alright. Definitely not where I parked my car

Milda’s mom nags that young generation’s way of living is not how they lived their youth. And that gists the main idea of the film. Every new generation changes some traditions and creates situations that count as tricky for their parents, leading parents into bringing children back to their bed!

Cracking. Beauty and finesse and some magnificent choices in editing and overall structure that reveals a master in the making. Generally it's a movie divided into 3-4 long and 3-4 short scenes, and Forman pulls it off without trembling. Scripting consultants upon seeing the screenplay will have uttered "ehm, how will you make this last more than 30 minutes?". Lovely point.

Pretty funny and interesting enough to sustain its brief length. Very new-wavey, kind of a Truffaut feel, or a Breathless feel.

sad and charming story, but it's pretty insubstantial and there's a girl's pledge which hints at some underlying morality that i'm not so sure about. also, there might come a time when i've seen one movie too many where a man ask a girl inside and she says no and he insists and she says no but finally gives in, and once inside he tries to kiss her and then fondle her and she avoids, but then he does something special at which point she loves him because she clearly wanted it all along.

A simple film with very authentic feeling writing and acting and an understated sense of humor. The boy's parents steal the show, and all of the performances are at least solid. This is a Milos Forman (of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and others) Czech language film--one of his first full length feature films. A good film, but maybe a bit TOO understated for my tastes.

I'm surprised to see so many comments here pointing out that it was made in a communist country - not that it wasn't, but why is that the one thing people pick up on? It's a story of smalltown boredom, miscommunication, naivite and generational divides that's just as relevant no matter where it's set. Possibly the best Forman I've seen.
