Kim is just fantastic at making movies about falling in love with your best friend. "and i wanted to call you or just show up at your house or something"

Low-key, subtle drama; structured like a fine short story, it effectively portrays an intense, small-scale disruption in the lives of its main characters, isolating its focus to the here-and-now. The blessing and curse of this is a lack of expository information, which both intensifies the narrative of these characters, while also undermining them as genuinely complicated dramatic figures (making it in a short(er) format might have helped). Keough and Malone are both sensational.

Two old friends (Riley Keough and Jena Malone) share a moment on a road trip together, but unable to deal with the implications, Malone pulls away; three years later, at Malone's wedding, their feelings for each other bubble to the surface once more. A fairly thin and vague script is bolstered by lovely performances from the leads (especially Keough, who really carries it) and solid direction. Moments of painful truth shine through, but the film as a whole is too slight to be a real success.

it's just nice, lacking a meaty plot or much drama

Simply beautiful direction. Some of the most natural characters I've ever seen in a film and the story they tell is a beautifully bittersweet one. Special credit for the way Jessie was portrayed, at both ages! Most films portray kids like they've never seen one in their life, but she is such a quirky natural kid here it feels like she wasn't acting at all.

A simple yet poignant romance. A story of two people yearning for a love that is destined to be doomed. Authentic acting and meandering pace complement each other for a good tone. A more directional handling of its themes could have enhanced it. Nonetheless, the emotional restraint of the narrative is captivating.

Boring. Nothing happens in this film. At least nothing important or interesting.
