A study of two friends (Perkins and Bridges) who, along with a third man, compete over the affections of a capricious and dubious blonde (Danner). Early 20th century Rural Texas makes a very prominent backdrop. Seriously underrated, and has Lumet's reliable thumbprint on it. Gid (Perkins) draws a great deal of sympathy.
