Corey Haim plays a weedy geek who is friends with locusts and tries out for the high school football team in a vain and pathetic attempt to be socially validated through acceptance by the jock clique. Haim is actually somewhat endearing, but this movie is pretty stupid.

He almost scored a touchdown, then he almost died, then the jocks accepted him for who he was and gave him a letterman jacket.

Along with ...Say Anything, this is one of the best (and most emotionally mature) teen movies of the 80s. The majority of teen films during this time (and even now) were misogynistic and displayed the most simplistic of emotions, but an excellent script by Seltzer, along with fantastic performances by everyone involved, elevates this film. A film that makes you feel really good afterwards and doesn't veer into sappy territory.

an 80's underdog movie with a few big names, that basically delivers a feel good ending without the main character achieving his ultimate goal--like mask only instead of dying he just gets beat up, and then people clap at him. but, hell it was pretty good anyway.

That it so expertly nails the Slow Clap, the Cheer and the Freeze Frame within the span of 30 seconds makes Friend Zone: The Movie totally worth sitting through.

Typical '80s teen movie with a slightly younger protagonist and a rather mature Kerri Green who pushes back against Corey Haim's unrequited love and sense of "nice guy" entitlement. Winona Ryder stood out. I feel worse for having read about the Sheen allegations. Ending was cheesy with the accepting enemies, the slow clap, and the freeze frame. Fav scene: sitting back-to-back talking.

Nothing special but still have a fondness from my youth. Kerri Green from the Goonies was hot.

Sweetly told sometimes heartbreaking coming of age tale with major heart.

A very good coming of age film with the tragic Corey Haim in his break out role.

Very very good and touching...but the last part just seems tacked on to pad it out. First off, we leave the girl and Charlie Sheen (where the story has been all this time); and we do so to follow something that can only be described as wildly improbable--Luca's football attempts no less so than everyone's starry-eyed reaction at the end. A manufactured "feelgood hit of the season" finale.

Like "Angus," it's an underdog teen story, which I love, but it just doesn't have much meat on its bones.

The best role Corey Haim will ever be in. Say what you will about how shitty of an actor he became he had a bunch of potential here.

Box Obras-primas do Cinema Volume 3.

Heart-warming movie built in the model of the typical 1980's teen high school films, but a cut above most.

This was such a tender, well-cast, and ultra 80s flick with some real heartfelt moments, some cheesiness and some real creative ways to show teenage culture and thinking. This was one of the most unique movies I’ve seen in this genre in terms of its depth.
