On par with Roberto Rossellini's other early WWII films. He rarely preaches the fascist agenda, even if he's making these films for the regime, and instead focuses on portraying rather dry warfare. Fairly realistic and unspectacular at first. But the time spent in the shelter showed what this unestablished soon-to-be-legend director was capable of.
