Watchable but patchy movie. The casting seemed odd, although everyone did a fine job. Just the episodes where Lucille Ball answers personal ads as a police plant, and ends up meeting innocent weirdos, that was more interesting than the movie they ended up making.

A combo of excellent direction, a great lead performance from Ball, several equally strong supporting performances and great script for them all to work with make this shine. It's a mysterious romance noir and it flows so effortlessly from scene to scene, building up the bits of suspense and the characters so that the climax isn't just a plot turn, but has actual significance. It dips a bit at times, especially right after the climax, but always gets back on track.

It's pretty rare to get good humor in a thriller, but this murder mystery manages to do both well (and, surprisingly, it's not just Ball with the quips). The story does slow down a bit in the middle, although it builds up enough goodwill to keep you watching until the ending. It's a real shame this isn't more well-known. Fav moment(s): the running crossword gag.

George Sanders and Lucille Ball are always fun to watch, and there's a very amusing/creepy minor role for Boris Karloff. If the film has a significant flaw, it's that the tension gets turned on and off like a faucet, and there are several stretches without much menace at all. But it is sufficiently engaging for the most part with some nice noir lighting. Also a homosexual subtext for the killer is never overtly hinted at, but it's an intriguing angle to ponder.

Ball and Sanders are suited for their roles; Sirk succeeds in telling the story. Overall well-made but somehow lacking in suspense.

Enjoyable mystery/thriller Lucille Ball is charming and there is a light hearted air rather than any sense of jeopardy.

The adventures of Lucile Ball: Girl Detective were great. Ending was a bit too talky. But Karloff's cameo added a wonderful dose of lunacy to the whole thing.

I remember loving the characters, but struggling about feeling the excitement of the story when watching the French original called Pièges (1939), and the Hollywood remake Lured (1947) has a lot of the same problems, but there were more actors I love which made it more entertaining. Still a mild letdown script wise, but you do get entertained by it.
