Luther

This is less a historical account of Luther's life than a psychological portrait of the man, so one needs to be fairly familiar with his life to follow the film. Luther is portrayed as a man who had deep self-hatred, which initially manifests as a refusal to accept that he could ever be at peace with God, and subsequently turns into a fundamental doubt in Catholic doctrine. Keach is magnificent, and the supporting cast is superb, with Patrick Magee and Alan Badel standing out.
