The way too bold first draft of this was probably called Uncle. Pure glorious stupid trash. The grossest surprise nerd penis since Revenge of the Nerds.

I think this is actually pretty surprising. Ma seemed like it was going for a edgy teen thriller, and while it sure does borrow elements from those, it's surprisingly twisted. Octavia Spencer is weirdly over the top, but it fits the style for this film. None of the characters outside of her are interesting, but they're actually a little bit better than the run of the mill, even if they're stupid. Ultimately, poor writing and lack of originality are the its biggest downfalls.

Surprisingly very entertaining. There's enough of a plot to not be a numbing experience. The characters are interesting, good or bad. Nice mix of humor and tension. Overall a very fun movie to watch.

I tend to like films like this, so I’m a bit biased. That being said, it’s only a decent film that’s elevated by the novelty of seeing Octavia Spencer in such a different role, one that she (as expected) performs very well. Some of the side characters have more development than expected, which helps. The film is a bit uneventful in places however. It’s not a quick paced fun horror film to watch with friends, but it passes the time well enough.

Amazing how one excellent performance can make a weak Horror movie like Ma more fun. Despite this, it still wasn't a good movie and nothing really made any sense. However, I kind of had a good time with it due to how over the top Octavia Spencer was in this. Any time she was on screen I was engaged. Everybody else pretty much sucks though. Characters make dumb decisions and stuff so that the plot can keep going. I did get a few laughs out of it though so it's not the worst thing you could watch.

Despite it's cheesy dialogue, the amount of disbelief it asks for you to suspend, and the fact that it has all the subtlety of a San Francisco pride parade, there's some "dumb" fun to be had here. Octavia really embraces her role and her performance probably would've shined with a better script and supporting cast. It's nothing to write home about, but it's a psychological thriller with interesting layers that had potential to be more. Also Diana Silvers was both charming and B E A U T I F U L

Spencer deserved better after highlighting near every scene she was in. Her performance was too good for this average at best script with major plot holes and development. Everything besides her eerie transformation was boring and lacklustre. Even the so called plot twist was a complete dud. Bad movie with a really great lead performance squandered on yet another subpar script that thinks it is making bold decisions to have a hurt yet deranged lead character.

A good performance by Spencer raises this above the average. The rest of the movie, though, is oddly bloodless; if you have this many annoying teenagers in a movie, the psycho's job should be pretty clear.

First movie in a long time that left me speechless. I have no idea if this is a comedy or trying to be disturbing - really strange film.

I liked the way it teases teenage romance movies and unveils the white violence that is inherent to such narratives. "Ma" gives you the joy of watching a decent revenge gore with credible characters and good acting. A great performance by Octavia Spencer. Of course it's not "Shining" or "Suspiria" but it gives you what it promises.

I wouldn't say it's terrible but I also wouldn't recommend it. Like others have said, Spencer is the highlight here as she crazies all over the place. The rest of it is whatever. Even for a movie people make really stupid choices; I can only forgive that kind of convenience to a certain point and this passes that.

Octavia Spencer clearly had a great time playing the unhinged titular lead. The finale is so over the top, it really does become difficult to tell if this is meant to be a dark comedy or not. Always good to see my homie Allison Janney in anything, but I wish she had had more to do... I have to wonder why she agreed to do her nothing role in this.

So badly directed -- despite Spencer's enormous efforts as an actress having such a great time -- that I couldn't help but think how could this could've been if directed by someone like Eli Roth.

This is a very strange movie that is all over the place. Octavia Spencer shows her great acting range throughout the film but that's just not enough. The rest of the characters keep the movie going with mind numbing decisions and their motivations leave a lot to be desired.

This film works because of the great performance by Octavia Spencer. Her performance carries this movie. The script has some predictable moments but it is good on the whole. Overall I would recommend this film.

Should be trashy fun, but Tate Taylor seems less than adept at shaping scenes or guiding a story. The writing also falters: it's never believable that these kids would think hanging out at this woman's house is cool, and they're too bland to care about or to root against. Spencer's energies are wasted on a poorly written character whom the filmmakers haven't decided how they feel about.

B-movie excellence. Octavia Spencer chose to spend her Hollywood cachet on making this cringefest? I'm so glad Blumhouse is around to reinvigorate Hollywood's staid popcorn horror cinema. Fuck Warner Bros' / James Wan's generic supernatural horror!

It was.. pretty okay. It passed the time just fine. Although I think her character (and others.. dumb, dumb decisions) could have been written better, Octavia Spencer is wonderful and pulls off crazy very well.

Could have also been called - Fuck It, I'm tired of all y'all's shit: The Movie. Octavia Spencer elevates what would have otherwise been another ho hum horror/thriller. Kind of weird but fun at the same time. Ma is a cross between Annie Wilkes and Norman Bates. Good for a one time viewing.

It's a fairly mediocre horror movie. You know what's going to happen but the whole deal with victim or instigator makes it more interesting, Octavia Spencer is great in this one, but plot-wise it's sadly very lackluster. Teens sure can be hella annoying.

I will watch Octavia Spencer in anything ( except that god awful superhero film she was in with Melissa McCarthy ). I thought all of the performances were pretty decent in this, with Silvers and Spencer really standing out. Some of this is pretty dumb, but I can't really say I've seen this kind of premise anywhere else. Kids of this generation will probably find more to like than the older crowd, but I recommend it for any horror fan. I give 5 gay love interests from Booksmart out of 10.

Top badass moment? Learning that if youngsters could buy booze themselves they’d be a lot safer. I don’t think I ever went through the 'underage drinking phase'. The most I managed was some dodgy cider when I was 17 that a friend bought from a farm, on a geography A Level field trip to the Chiltern’s, where we were actually supposed to be measuring pebbles in streams. Extra 5 points for "Safety Dance", which incidentally is a great song to saw firewood up to. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Geçmişte yapılan hatalardan dolayı alınan 1 intikam hikayesi daha. Bu sefer intikam alınanlar arkadaşların çocukları. Lise yaşındaki kanı durmayan çocuklara içki alıp, evinin bodrumunu gece klubüne çeviren Ma, şirine huyu ile planlarını uyguluyor. Fight Club benzerlikleri var. Octavia Spencer oyunculuk dersi veriyor. Filmin sonu aceleye getirilip hızlı bitse devam filmi için açık kapı bırakılmış. İçki kötülüklerin anasıdır.

As far as generic horror goes, this is pretty damn good. Spencer gives everything she's got and almost salvages this really muddled character. It's got a refreshing slow build that doesn't throw a bunch of fake jump scares at you to fill up running time, and Diana Silvers makes for a convincing lead. Solid B+ generic horror.
