Mad Dog and Glory

It's okay but probably better if you had different expectations about the actor archetypes or the type of plot this may entail. It's cutting commentary with the playground fight ending too. Uma Thurman was/is gorgeous. This was part of the dying breed of older male younger female trope. Fav scene: when she first shows up at his door and gives her backstory.

Hot Uma. Not funny Murray. "I don't get laid, I make love."

A movie which engenders no strong feelings in me. I mean, I didn't feel I wasted my time watching it, but at the same time, I didn't feel overwhelmingly enthusiastic about doing so.

Just to be clear here, Bill Murray is a gangster, and Robert De Niro is not. That is casting.

Viewed May 7, 2021. Genuinely depressing comedy with a lot of beautifully paced awkward pauses and a great insular performance from Robert de Niro, whose loner role makes this something of a spiritual successor to Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy.

Worth it just to see De Niro play the shy nebbish and Bill Murray play the gangster heavy.

Scorsese is a better producer than director JK

I heart this movie. All the characters are so well done. "That's Phil fuckin' Donahue!"

De Niro comes off much better here than he usually does when he tries to play somebody more or less normal. Swell little movie all around that works a lot better than you'd think

Very Good

A story of two men who are in places they don't belong to. What could've possibly led to a beautiful friendship ends up in an other way. Has a nice story and funny moments, although it's more of a drama than comedy. “Life is what happens to you while you're waiting for your ship to come in.”

Underrated movie this.

Robert De Niro, Bill Murray, EMA Thurman looking as hot as she's ever looked . . . but boring and uninteresting plot. I liked how De Niro and Murray's roles were reversed but there is a reason these are not their usual roles. Not a very funny "comedy". But lol at David Caruso being in this, hardly recognized him at first.

Mad Dog and Glory was directed by John McNaughton, who wisely lets many scenes run to the point of being uncomfortable, just like his characters are with each other. Everything about this movie seems fresh.

This is a great movie that has two of my favourites working together: Bill Murray and Robert De Niro. The two play against type and I think they both do an excellent job. Uma Thurman is also good in this film. This film is extremely underrated.

okay movie

You know where this film is going. I don't need to tell you that De Niro and Thurman fall in love and that she'll bring him back to life. What this film does is circumvent the sameness of much of it's plot by being character-driven is unexpected ways. It's a comedy that forgoes jokes for sly humor that emerges from the characters.

Extremely bland execution of a curious idea done better in a film like Analyze This. I wish the film had kept the energy of the opening scene! Casting De Niro and Murray in roles that play against their type is fun, but the novelty wears off quickly. Uma is pretty good, Caruso is amusing, but I don't find anything here worth re-visiting.

cool stuff this one has, most importantly due to the performances, I think (especially great one by deniro, obviously :D). gets a little weird and confusing towards the end, though.
