Eleven-year-old New York City public school kids journey into the world of ballroom dancing and reveal pieces of themselves and their world along the way. Told from their candid, sometimes hilarious perspectives, these kids are transformed, from reluctant participants to determined competitors, from typical urban kids to "ladies and gentlemen," on their way to try to compete in the final citywide competition... This is a nice and inspiring documentary. We meet the kids and the teachers, and you watch the children, understandably reticent about dancing with the opposite sex, get better at it, get more comfortable and in some cases, get really good at dancing. It's not a particularly well put together documentary, but it creates enough good will to glide past the rough spots.

Entertaining, simple and affecting documentary demonstrating the benefits of combining dance and pedagogy. The audience does not learn too much detail about the lives of any of the participants, but this is almost certainly a good thing: the filmmakers showed admirable restraint in letting the story tell itself, rather than tugging too manipulatively at the heartstrings.

It will entertain viewers that normally eschew documentaries, as it has its own drama, cast of zany characters, and plenty of music and dancing.

Quite charming and heartwarming. It's nice to see kids who are neither precocious little sugarcubes nor corrupted little shits.
