Freakin' great movie! Seriously, I loved pretty much all of it! Acting-wise, Hoult is doing well for an up-and-comer, Hardy played a good Max, and Theron really stands out! The production and make-up are really nice, the characters are awesome and crazy, Miller's directing is incredible, and the action is all over the place yet done extremely well! Story was pretty dang good too! With all of this, it's filmed really well and in the end, it's a really great movie!

Here comes Mad Max: Fury Road to revive this arid wasteland we call Hollywood filmmaking and to prove that blockbusters need not be one homogeneous mass of bland and boring sameness. It's a visually glorious and furiously raging beast of a film but it also boasts a feminist subtext and a surprising amount of narrative depth. It puts other blockbuster films to shame. What a lovely day!

This is basically a modern day adaptation of Buster Keaton's The General on PCP, soaked in violent liberation, with an unhinged momentum that makes the Coyote and Roadrunner chase scenes look like cartoons for children (er...). This is a movie where characters at any given moment will commit murder and throw away their lives for one another, fighting tooth and nail, like starving animals, in total desperation, all for a freedom they rightfully deserve. It's invigorating and totally badass.

If you loved the trailers you'll love the film. It's - quite literally - a wild ride. Miller's choreography of thrillingly tactile (and, honestly, peerless) action is as batshit insane as Immortan Joe and his underlings are unique and bizarre. Other things to admire, relish and praise are the bombastic score and, of course, Charlize Theron's one-armed heroine-badass, Imperator Furiosa. The best blockbuster in - again, yes, literally - ages and an instant classic. Witness it.

Honestly wow. Probably one of the best shot films we're gonna see this year. Fury Road boasts a continuation of the same vibrant, interesting, and overall stunning world portrayed in the original trilogy, while adding a modern brutality and grittiness to the constant 80's feel. Plus the feminist undertone of the movie, allowed it to portray an understanding of modern issues. If this is what the modern blockbuster becomes, count me in.

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching an action movie. It's essentially made up of multiple violent, high-octane chase sequences with brief areas of calm story progression, but the action scenes contain so many careful subtleties that the film's world and characters really become fully fleshed out in the process of mind-bogglingly exhilarating filmmaking. With everything it was trying, this movie got it all right.

$150 million action blockbusters aren't supposed to be so good they make you cry from sheer joy. Not just from the furious, relentless, jaw-dropping spectacle, but from its ability to conjure up an entirely original world in which Miller leaves unsaid all which he's so expertly able to convey through characterization and visuals. To say this movie has heart is both trite and an understatement. It might just be the best action film ever made.

Every once in a while, not too often, a movie comes around that does not waste one second of your time (like this review just did) MMFR is one of those cherished few moments. It tells a far more interesting backstory with literally less than 10 seconds worth of flashbacks than Godzilla did in the first 40 minutes. That leaves 119 minutes and 50 second worth of bat shit insane crazy action. Trigger warning: It has a girl in it...you know, just in case that hurts your feelings or whatever.

A thoroughly enjoyable, hyperactive slice of orange-and-teal-tinged lunacy. Some tremendous action scenes and production design, coupled with very decent performances behind the array of bizarre characters, really help the film capture the essence of what was good about the previous instalments. Hardy underplays quite nicely here, giving the excellent Theron's character room to breathe; this works well. There's plenty going on under the surface to make it more than an extended car chase. Great!

It absolutely delivers. The glorious high-octane stunts accompanied by a pulse-pounding OST had me pumped long after leaving the cinema. The visuals were jaw-dropping with some shots matching the beauty found in Attenborough's Planet Earth, with road hogs tearing up the plains instead of migratory herds. The bizarre yet fully fleshed characters round out what'll be a modern classic. This is one to revisit for many years to come.

It amazes me that a world that's so insane and bizarre as this one can legitimately feel more authentic than action movies that are set in the current time. Mostly practical effects, characters that feel like individuals (even ones without much screen time to develop backstory), and realistic emotions being shown for what is taking place action-wise take this movie to another level for me. This is the movie to see if you are bored with all the samey action movies that have been coming out lately

Massive, massive disappointment. After the unanimous reviews came out I was so amped that I watched the original trilogy back-to-back-to-back the day before. It's undeniable that "Fury Road" has great visual style to spare. But once again, the critics were blinded by cinematography. Where is the plot? The characters? Where's the humour? The fun? Even the violence was unrewarding. An average night of WWF wrestling has a better story and characters than this. Gritty and humourless.

Haven't seen an action movie so unrelenting and balanced in pacing since Terminator 2. The narrative is spun visually with very little exposition to slow the movie down, and when there are breaks in the action there is still a sense of urgency that beats like a war drum. Essentially boils down to a two hour post-apocalyptic chase movie, with spectacular stunt-based action sequences and traditional visual effects. Yet, the story that drives the action is moving and filled with strong characters.

Fury Road shares only its setting with the 1980's Mad Maxes, which I enjoyed. In every other way, it is exactly the same as every other action summer blockbuster since the turn of the century. Its flimsy plot is off-the-shelf and immaterial, and the illogical and ceaseless stunt-explosion-chase-battles are like a crib mobile: Flashy and noisy, but mass-produced and monotonously repetitive. Being cursed with an intellect more developed than a baby's, this movie bored the shit out of me.

You know when there's a wounded pregnant woman narrowly dodging a rock overhang while hanging off the side of a steampunk-style big rig that this is far from your typical action film. A gloriously refreshing set of protagonists (Theron leads a great cast of females young and old) drives (literally; it's almost all insane car chases) forward a simple apocalyptic story beautifully filmed and fantastically decorated. Max's backstory flashes are a little distracting without any context though.

miller steps back into action as if he never left, injecting back something that's been missing from the genre with rare exceptions: pure, unashamed straightup adrenaline. it says a lot that most of the action in the trailer comes from the first half of the film and the opening sequence to the movie-long chase would be an action finale in any other film. lots of perfect creepy dystopian future touches and surprisingly well done humor. LOVED the heavy metal vehicle with the flamethrowing guitar

The characterization was even more refined than its predecessors and the plot was boiled down to one, very long chase. However, this movie clipped along rapidly, taking so many breakneck turns that we weren't given time to think about these things, and I found myself not wanting to. This shift in pace from the slow burning action of its prequels was smart, allowing room for the gorgeously crafted environment to shine. Bonus points for Tom Hardy being super dreamy and the feminist leanings.

It's not just the jaw-dropping stuntwork that elevates this 2 greatness, but the truly inspired visuals; describing them is like recounting parts of a dream (e.g. "I dreamt I was on the hood of a speeding car spitting octane into the engine as we raced this guy painted white"). I almost skipped seeing this because remakes of 80's classics are generally retarded, but Fury Road is nothing short of amazing. It's a rip-roaring, all guns blazing cavalcade of vehicular destruction and violence that barely lets up during the 2 hour runtime. Tom Hardy's nearly mute and certainly insane Max is perfect, and Theron is 100% believable as a hard as nails badass. I dare you to watch this and not have a blast...it's a highlight of the last 20 years of Hollywood action flicks.

Miller learns from his previous films and strips things down to a simple, straightforward plot while simultaneously blowing the action scenes up to ridiculous scales. Yet the stunt work and CGI are realistic and grounded, providing a nice contrast to both its own craziness and the majority of recent action films. There's an immediacy to it that many films have a hard time capturing. This is a movie where a despot brings a guy with a flamethrower guitar along with him on a chase, and you buy it.

I've seen a bunch of people try to talk about the film having some sort of "message" but all I got from it was that it is metal as shit to play a flamethrower guitar on top of a war truck made of speakers. Whoa! I entered the theatre with my face, but it appears that it was blown off over the course of this film. While I understand the need to call this film "Mad Max", it should really be "Furiosa" (or "Mad Furiosa"). It's a mystery how this film got made, as in, how such a unique vision was given such a high budget. The world is better for it, though.

It's a feat for a movie series to enter its opulence phase and still retain the sensibilities that made it culturally resonate back in its early days. Fury Road shows what blockbusters can be, enormous, decadent spectacles but still capable of infusing its characters with emotional depth by adhering to a simple concept inherent to good cinema, show not tell. From the incessant pace of the chases to the lull before the storm, Miller shows, and teaches, just how humanistic a simple story can be.

One of the rare films I'd recommend heading to your local fleapit to see. This demands a big screen and thunderous sound system. Jaw-dropping real action, sparing use of CGI, insanely inventive. This movie pushes itself to the limits, then pushes some more. This will be remembered as one of the best action movies of a decade littered with lame CGI cartoon superheroes. I left the theatre feeling high as a kite, and 2 days later I'm still buzzed about this and considering a repeat viewing.

Once you get past how cool everything looks you realize it's just mindless, repetitive action that has no semblance of a story. The characters are horrifically one dimensional and incredibly cliched. The scene where Furiosa realizes her home is destroyed and she rips her fake arm off and screams at the sky is a strong candidate for the top 5 worst scenes of all time. So much cringe. It's hard to imagine that anything will be more overrated in 2015, don't believe the hype.

Both an exercise in and oblique takedown of macho action movie excess, complete with high speed cars, exuberant pyrotechnics, insane stunts and obligatory heavy metal. It's telling that its gentle themes of compassion, hope and atonement are depicted through endless flashes of violence, brutality and mass, rampaging annihilation. It depicts a humanity that is forced to overcome its innate destructive tendencies in order to survive -- quite a heavy subject for such an unapologetic spectacle.

I haven't seen many films that do such a wonderful job ratcheting up tension and keeping the clock ticking throughout. The action scenes feel especially well-paced; Miller has only gotten better at that. That its entire theme involves Patriarchy-smashing only makes it better. Keays-Byrne shines as a giant skewering of the papacy, as does Richard Carter as the embodiment of a corrupt justice system. Theron leaves the most indelible impression of all. This film will prove extremely rewatchable.

Man, the manic, unrelenting energy of that first 30 minutes just knocked me down on my ass. It was something to witness indeed; it was bonkers; but a very appealing kind of crazy. It made me giddy, I just enjoyed it at a very subconscious level. Then it stutters a bit as it is hard to keep up the story in a slow car chase; but the quality of production, the raw aesthetic of the created world never ceased to amaze. If they are going for a second trilogy, I'm all for it.

A return to form for action movies. It doesn't have a fully realized backstory, but neither did the original series, nor do any of them need one. It's firm in its affirmation of its own existence. The world is this way, and if you don't accept that, you're dead on the road. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is refreshing in its own sense of high octane violence. The best movie of 2015 so far.

Visual storytelling cuts out the usual bullshit exposition & fun little stories are told through action & detail. Major character stuff works decently in balance. Too long though & lacks a certain bite of something like Road Warrior. Nothing revolutionary but the flamboyant presentation & rock-solid direction are a perfect reminder of why you once loved action films.

Hoult both looks and acts goofy here, which is pretty fitting because that guy's face is weird. I don't understand why Miller thought it'd be a good idea to take a powder from a successful dystopian sci-fi series to pump out a few crappy kids movies and "Lorenzo's Oil." This is where he belongs. It's been a long time, old friend, I'm glad you're back.

By the second act, there's very little left to discover about its incredibly detailed world, and the action scenes, whilst mostly exciting, felt increasingly less fresh as the film went on. The feminist subtext (text, really) was fine, but it's more praise-worthy for its inclusion that its execution. This review is at least partially reactionary. It's fantastic. Go see it.

A tank burning rubber on a desert. While the projected, pointless car chases were by far the worst part of the earlier movies, Fury Road has nothing else to offer. A hymn to the modern ADHD "culture". There have been several definitions of feminism, but somehow I don't recall "a bunch of scantily clad models with no other purpose than to look sexy" being one of them.

Great and in a way classical camera work for an action film, and most of the time great action which for me becomes a little redundant after a while. And the whole film would have worked totally fine without Max, who is supposed to be cool I guess, but only feels dumber than Mel Gibsons Mad Max. Still a fun ride though. Badass. One of the best action films I've seen in a long time. It's Furiosa's story, as told by Max; it's not his journey, he just facilitates it. The design of the characters & vehicles were fantastic. I appreciate the feminist angle. I don't think Hardy did a lot with the (admittedly diminished) role. Theron is awesome. The action scenes are well choreographed & different. Great integration of the practical stuff with the CGI. Spectacular, smart, a real cinematic achievement & I loved it

Fury Road feels more like a carnival ride than a film. Watching it in 3D only added to the effect. It's nice to see the emphasis put on the female characters, but it really doesn't help when they have no backstory or personality. Still the main character seems to be Furiosa, who overshadows even Max himself. Don't let the new, fancy special effects fool you, story-wise the film is as hollow as the previous movies.

In a year that doesn't have Kingsman, this probably wins action movie of the year. Even so, by the end it'll be a tough choice for me. Amazing atmosphere/visuals, exciting action in one long chase scene that never gets boring, completely ridiculous vehicle design (in the best way possible!), a guy in the front of a big truck with the sole purpose being playing the guitar, a pounding soundtrack with a great theme, feminism, Tom Hardy, and a well-told narrative. Does film making right.

Fury Road sets new standards for action films and my long awaited expectations where unbelievably surpassed. It's both satisfying and rewarding to see the visionary talents of George Miller reach a new pinnacle. And the enormity and scale of Fury Road is truly astonishing. Tom Hardy is perfect and Charlize Theron really surprised me. The set pieces, vehicles & score are all insanely spectacular and the entire experience blew me away. Fury Road ranks high among the finest action films ever made.

I went to the cinema with no expectations and I came out quite displeased with this pile of desert rubbish on wheels. 'Mad' Max was bigger pussy than any of wives/(grand)mothers. I thought he would be like rabid dog, making mayhem all the time. Instead he looked like cracked mental patient, who was off his meds and got asswhiped by a bunch of (pregnant) girls. Also there are some dudes driving to and fro in desert all the time, if you like that kind of stuff. Boring as fuck.

Mad Max Fury Road isn't just a great film, it is a bar for which other films must now be judged against. on rewatch i have even less idea why this film is so popular, because it's stranger and more removed from conventional standards of taste than most b-movies. forget the lovingly detailed and lived-in universe, wicked sense of humour, vivid, hallucinatory visuals and visceral, kinetic, amazingly choreographed set pieces. it's the tone that makes it; that messed up, grotesque, twitching derangement, and the way it's fully internalised to the point of resembling some mad alien mythology.

It's a really well executed action flick. I was expecting some retro elements but the visuals are very 2015, though with mercifully limited use of disorienting CGI track & pan shots during the action. The world Miller creates is fascinating and the script does an outstanding job of selectively explaining things. Best of all, we get to experience it with excellent pacing. I can't remember the last time a two hour runtime flew by so fast.

In P.A. Earth, there are endless reserves of refined oil, but people have forgotten how to shoot out tyres! Which only goes to illustrate how mad this all is. That said, as a visual, and visceral spectacle this is unsurpassed. It has its flaws; it sags heavily in the middle when the action relents, and it is all too easy to see how shallow everything is. The action sequences looked rushed at the end, compared to the utter brilliance of the earlier sand storm, but ultimately, one hell of a ride!

Take the most intense scene from your typical action movie these days. If you double it up, you have the quieter moments of action for about 100 of the 120 minutes of this movie. Fucking blew me away. The visuals were gorgeous (how do you even make a bunch of sand look good?), and the soundtrack beautifully accompanied what was on the screen. The plot was the only thing you can knock, but you'll be more concerned about catching your breath. Shout out to the guitar man. Rock on.

The level of detail combined with the level prolonged intense non-cgi action is a new benchmark. The design quality from the vehicles to pendants is a feast. So good I'm genuinely not sure how any action flick is topping this in the near future. Film was storyboarded first, a rareity, but should be the blueprint for all action flicks, the kinetic aspect was perfect.

The thing I admired most about this was the ugliness of just about everything but the Victoria's Secret models in it. Compared to its contemporaries, Fury Road offers a well thought out creativity and design which carries weight and consequence to every action that never saturates as it goes from action scene 1 to 2 to 3. It hadn't hit me until this that other action movies recently strive to be more regal and pristine, which consequently makes their action prissy and plodding.

George Miller blows the original trilogy out of the water with Fury Road. I can't find anything I disliked about this movie. The action never lets up and the setting has the perfect feel. You've got your ridiculously over the top villains. The plot was simple and the leads did a fantastic job. That soundtrack was so good! I got everything I wanted out of this movie. And a story that capitalizes on certain mythic tropes without pointing at itself repeatedly as if to say, "Hey, look what we're doing here!" This film simply goes about its business with competence, all the while bringing a measure of humanity to the apocalyptic wasteland that serves as its setting.

The most notable thing here is that it succeeds at being consistently engaging despite the overinflated, unrelenting [seriously, anything remotely resembling "quiet," or "contemplative moments" do not exist in this universe], dumb action spectacle. As far as this type of thing goes though, I found "The Lego Movie" to be more unique and endearing. Score is the usual hollywood turd-fest. Also, it's pretty silly to call this a feminist film, but I guess it's a start.
