Not good. Most of the jokes fall flat, and the whole thing just feels like an uninspired cash-in sequel. Much like the first movie, 'Madagascar's' biggest problem is that the funniest, most interesting characters are not the four central characters.

If you have seen the first movie, this is exactly what you would expect from the second one. Good old jokes, but almost nothing new.

Another fun and funny installment. These characters are just so likeable and though the movie is filled with funny moments, there's still some sweet and touching scenes. I'm not sure I liked it *quite* as much as the first one, but it was still an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, and yeah, I laughed a lot!:D

Actually I thought this one was better than the first one. It's just a nice animationfilm. They tried to be funny but actually the only funny parts are the penguin-parts. The father-son-reunification isn't original, but it's nicely done. Not super but good enough too be entertaining.

Thankfully the second instalment of Madagascar has a little more to offer than its thoroughly mediocre predecessor. With the addition of a vague plot and some limited sense of direction the cast seem to be more engaged and provide better performances, particularly in the case of Baron Cohen who now provides most of the entertainment. It's slightly pretentious, terribly predictable and... odd at times, but overall provides an enjoyable adventure. Plus, the penguins and monkeys return.

Bad. Not the worst sequel ever made, but why the hell is Dreamworks still pumping this franchise's tit? The first movie was bad enough. I mean, really. It was hideous. I don't need three movies to tell me it was stupid and ungly and all around bad. I guess it makes sense because everyone who worked on this must be SCROUNGING for a paycheck.

There is plot and character development here - it plays it safe - but it's here nonetheless. It feels like all the disparate elements (animation and individual voice actors) try to steal the scenes from each other, so it never achieves the kind of cohesion as it was intended.

Starts off a little rough with a cheesy flashback, yet another rendition of "Move It" (enough already), and a contrived four-fold character-growth set-up in a far-fetched multi-animal tribe, but the penguins keep you engaged (I'll never tire of their hijinx) and the adventure plot sparked by a touching Alex-Marty moment picks things up with a number of memorable scenes both hilarious (see Julian's sacrifice bit; the Penguins' union negotiations) and moving (see the father-son dance diversion).

Family entertainment in the best kind. There is a subtle humor, funny, adult. The scenario is very clean and perfect, a quality animation.

Escape 2 Africa still suffers from the same uninteresting characters and inconsistent humor as the first film. This time however is granted the terrific performances of Bernie Mack and Alec Baldwin to assist. Also a greater emphasis on drama and a clearer theme adds to the fun.

Similar to the first one in that the story is weak and contrived but the comedy beats are working at a high fast and furious pace. Easy to watch and kept a smile on my face the majority of the time.

The original Madagascar is a mildly funny flick--with a few content issues--that showcases a simple story about the importance of friendship and self-sacrifice. Its successor is also mildly funny, includes a few more content issues and tries to tackle a more complex theme. (pluggedin.com)

Disney has made some poor sequels for a quick buck, but nothing as shameless and terrible as Madagascar 2. Nothing is funny or redeeming about this movie other than the fact that they at least paid the voice actors to come back, unlike Open Season 2, where they literally hired a Martin Lawrence impersonator

Cute story, but there were a couple of places that seemed to leave out some important plot information, especially near the beginning. I haven't seen the first yet so maybe that was part of the problem. The animation was fun and it has some very funny dialog and scenes.

This is definitely the weakest of the Madagascar movies, and it's not even close. The story is familiar, the villain is tacked-on and boring, and there's too much emphasis on exactly the wrong characters and storylines. The penguins are, of course, the movie's saving grace.

This was certainly an improvement on Madagascar (2005), which I didn't enjoy that much. The humour relied a lot less on pop culture references, which was good, and it did get a couple of chuckles out of me. Sacha Baron Cohen was awesome again, and I think I'm starting to understand why there's a TV show that revolves around the penguins. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but they at least tried to develop the characters. So, yeah, pretty harmless fun.

Suprisingly, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a fun, colorful, humourous and great CGI animation with only a few minor flaws. Sacha Baron Vohen is an absolute riot in this one, stealing the spotlight from the penguins, who were laugh-out-loud funny last movie. Tom and Eric seem to have matured, focusing on character developements and the script, which both have improved a lot. Overall a good Comedy for the whole family that is sure to get at least one chuckle from you.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is marginally better than it's unimpressive and forgettable predocessor. The first film was never worthy of a sequel and this does tread similar and uninspired ground. But the animation has improved drastically and although the main characters remain forgettable, the underused Penguins steal the show and deserve their own feature. But compared to the likes of Shrek & Kung Fu Panda, the Madagacar franchise remains at the bottom end of the Dreamworks back catalogue.

With Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, at least, the answer is yes: Grown-ups can spend their time totting up all the scenes, ideas, plot points, and characters ripped off from other films. Actually, Madagascar 2 is so egregiously lazy with its story that even the littlest kids may wind up counting along with their parents.

Ben Stiller is enjoyable in the lead role and the film is at times hilarious but it is a film that is ultimately immature in the delivery. I guess it is good for kids, which is the overall objective of the film.

Marginally better than its predecessor simply due to more competent and polished animation, but even as a second-tier animated film this is pretty thin and dull stuff, with a lot of noise and attitude trying to substitute for a complete lack of story or conflict (Baldwin is supposed to be a "Scar" substitute, but is given little chance to really bare his fangs). Props to Stiller for managing to mug ferociously using only his voice; his running rivalry with the psychotic granny is the high point.
