Japan's first all-sound movie. Even if this was in 1931 Japan continued to produce mostly silent pictures out the 1930's. One of the earliest surviving movies from director Heinosuke Gosho. Visually it's very similar to that of the early silent movies from from Ozu and Naruse with the comic touches of everyday life. It's not a major piece of work, but an normal story of the time and with the added curiosity of hearing Japanese spoken for the first time on camera and hearing someone jazz around.
