Made in Hong Kong

It's a low level crime film with the backdrop of Hong Kong being more interesting than the frustrating failure-to-launch Moon. But they can't all be criminal masterminds, especially if they never had the advantages in life. I agree with PeaceAnarchy that HK films are unevenly paced. Often cliched style is chosen over substance. The high school melodrama was not a highlight. Seeing failed adults was a treat. Fav scene: storming the office looking for Fat Chan and hearing from not-so-fat Chan.

I really like this, though it suffers from something I find in a lot of HK movies, which is that the pacing feels really uneven and some plot points are overexplained to death while others are blink and you miss them and it can make for a confusing experience. It's a drama with a bit of dark comedy in the tone, and the mix works well.

Excellent directing and cinematography. Hong Kong itself is the main star here. Pacing is uneven and plot doesn't quite click.

It's a pleasure to eyewitness these people and their surroundings.

An impressionistic whirlwind, set in the life of a low-level street thug who finds himself falling for the daughter of a woman from whom he's collecting a debt. The film's primary tension runs between its ineffable joie de vivre (MTV's Jules and Jim) and the crushing weight of adulthood which threatens to snuff out our characters' liveliness tragically soon. It's so lively and hyperkinetic that you hardly notice how Chan sets the table for tragedy. Having your heart broken is rarely so fun.
