Hot tub scene has a naked Gaylen Ross but the camera just loves the idea of that guy's hairy ass SLOWLY dipping into the water like a teabag. His name: "T.P." I'm still hootin'

Classic early 80's, low-budget, independent carpetbagger-cash-in slasher. Full of the standard cliches, tropes, and cheese with all their charms and flaws, but before it all had become fully played out. The killer 'Madman Marz' is part "Friday the 13th: Part Two"(1981) Jason, part "Night of the Demon"(1980) shadowy bigfoot like creature, and it makes for a memorably goofy growling hulking murderous maniac of a fun time. Only for fans of early cheap and cheesy 80's slashers.

The intro is a bizarro expository song cut with prophetic images of murders to come. It's pretty stupid and also kind of amazing. There's a lot of scenes of something in the background moving and I always love that. There's also wooden acting and dum-dum decisions that halter the enjoyment almost as much as the even more bizarro "creature" design and added sounds that include animalistic what-ing. I had fun. I think.

I wish my parents weren't going through a divorce/birthing me and my older slibling in 1980-1982. I'd really like to hear stories about The Time Every Horror Movie was Like the One We Just Saw. They had shit to do though, but I don't, and I watched Madman. It's at the 'good' end of the 80-82 spectrum, but it's still an 80-82 slasher. Just watch Friday the 13th or Halloween II.

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit I can definitely feel some Friday The 13th 1&2 vibes Liked the hanging scene it's not something you'd normally see in a slasher flick Kills were okay but poorly executed

Decently shot, and the ending theme is an absolute banger. There's not much else here. The characters are all completely uninteresting, but not as uninteresting as the titular madman who's given no discernible motivation or reason for existing outside of a campfire story. And the hot tub scene was such a pain to sit through.

Checks off every horror trope and in between that is long periods of nothing happening

It's nice to see a horror film where the camp councilors are decent people. The biggest problem I had with this movie is the weird stilted dialogue and the noises that "Madman Marz" kept making. Hatchet seems to be a complete rip-off of this movie just done better.

It's decent, but the ending leaves so much to be desired. It's also full of actors who read lines like they went to an acting school run by porno actors. That all said, there are some inventive moments...and that's really about it.

A solid early-80's slasher that, though it's essentially Friday the 13th with Jason swapped out for a big, hairy evil hillbilly (whose costume is pretty hilarious, by the way), provides a few fun kills & some likeable characters. It starts to lose itself around the third act, though, & never really recovers after that. The ending is very underwhelming & surprisingly cynical, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Still, it has its moments & is worth watching for slasher fans, even if it isn't stellar.

Pretty disappointing considering this has some kind of a cult reputation. It's not even in the A-list of summer camp slashers, so you're better off with Friday the 13th, The Burning or Sleepaway Camp instead. Bad acting, really annoying characters, hardly any plot, confusing soundtrack. On the plus side, It's quite nicely photographed, and contains some solid death scenes, but that's it.

Cliched so-so camp slasher without much thought. That title sound cue really got your attention. Gaylen Ross' Betsy was not the final girl I was expecting. Hot tub sex scene really focused on the man, didn't it? Fav scene: if you're driving away from a killer, don't stop the bus!

This may well fall into the 'so bad, it's good' category. Were this movie, with its rigid adherence to '80s slasher flick motifs and conventions, and downright laughably terrible acting and dialogue made exactly as is today, it would, doubtless, be taken for a nostalgic comic horror satire, and would be hailed as a work of genius.

Doesn’t reinvent the genre, it’s not particularly scary or suspenseful, but even so still makes for an amusing way to pass the time.

Madman Marz is bad at his job. First to go during the "Mad Slasher Monsters" industry layoffs. Poor guy can't even pay the bills now.

I appreciate the love this low-budget camp slasher garners, even if it doesn't totally work for me. A cool synth score, weird campfire songs, and a gnarly looking Madman Marz are all pluses, but I just struggle to hold onto anything that is that memorable beyond these.
