Well, Madonna does fellate a water bottle, but this movie is just standard fare when you compare it to other musical documentaries.

Would you like to see Madonna awkwardly deep throat a bottle? Me either.

1991 was Madonna at her most annoying, just after she had risen to absolute international fame (and before her music went downhill), hence this self-aggrandizing documentary.

The film centers on a scene where Warren expresses frustration that she's humiliating herself by allowing all this access into her life and she seems to have no idea what he is complaining about. What can you say about Madonna anyway? She's obnoxious, exhibitionist, and self-absorbed; but seems manifestly unable to wallow in self-pity or victimhood. You could at least argue that the film is worth seeing if only as a time capsule of when this BW 16 mm photography was the cutting edge of fashion.

I sometimes enjoy her music, but she's a surprisingly boring person to watch.

A useless movie chronicling Madonna at her sluttiest. And the bottle scene isn't even that impressive.....poor Kevin Costner, though.

At times it's self deifying, but at others it appears to be quite honest. The interactions, in particular, seem very genuine and makes me realize how rare it is to see human interactions in documentaries, especially among more than two people. The music in this film and the way the performances are intercut with the tour "narrative," if you want to call it that, works out pretty well. There are good thematic connections and the performances are very strong.

Alternately fascinating and tedious documentary (titled more amusingly internationally as IN BED WITH MADONNA) provides many moments of genuine truth and insight, balanced by an equal number of ickily contrived and forced moments (including the pretentious decision to shoot the 'back stage' moments in grainy B&W). Still, in a somewhat cold and forceful way, Madonna does reveal enough private moments to give you an insight into her psyche; 5 extra points for the hilarious Beatty cameo!

There's a shot of Madonna in this film when I wondered if I wasn't staring at an image of Marilyn Monroe. The phantom of Monroe is certainly present here, in a representation of Madonna's fame as much as of her female whiteness. It felt, to me, like a tragic film about race, power, sexuality and death. It's a ghost story.
