This was shot by every first year film student ever, the editing and shot choices are TOO artsy fartsy it gets distracting as heck. Assistant director was a brown crayon. I pressed play expecting to see Arnie ripping zombies in half going "UAHAAGGGHH!!!" but got Sensitive Schwarzenegger.

I liked it on balls alone. No one has done anything interesting with the zombie formula since Zack Snyder (by way of Danny Boyle) said, "Hurry up!" I know there's been contemplations like Dead Girl, but this one doesn't base it's story around rape (single tear down the cheek of Gasper Noe). I'm rooting for Arnold and I hope he is able to reinvent himself. He obviously learned a lot from the best acting school America has to offer: politics.

Maggie is another disappointing outing from Arnold Schwarzenegger following his comeback. I expected a somber tone and I welcome a more serious and sensitive performance from Arnie. I didn't for one moment expect or want to see Arnie slaying Zombie's, but at the same time I didn't expect this film to be so excruciatingly dull and lifeless. Arnie is clearly trying but he has so little to do other than mope around looking miserable. And the whole film looks and feels like a student project.

Arnold can't catch a break these days. He makes an action movie, people say he's too old. He makes a comedy, people say he should be making action movies. He makes a heart-felt drama about watching helplessly as his only daughter slowly transforms into a zombie while the rest of his world figuratively and literally crumbles around him, people dismiss it and go watch gifs of Rebel Wilson devouring Turkish Delight. Best line not in movie: "Remembah when I promised I'd keall you lahst? You died."

You know every scene in The Walking Dead when they are just talking and doing nothing and you think to yourself "why do I watch this show? This is so terrible" Yeah, they took that premise and turned it into a movie! The zombie market is so over-saturated and people's obsession with it is pathetic. Arnold has never been more misused in his life.

Maggie is a mixed-bag of a movie. On one hand, a somewhat nuanced performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger and a strong sense of atmosphere always give you something to watch, but on the other hand, it's incredibly slow moving and ultimately doesn't add up to a whole lot that you haven't seen before. It offers a few surprises, and it's not without merit, but for most audience members it's not going to be something worth seeking out.

With its mind set, right from the start, to subvert zombie genre, and even paternal protective dramas, Maggie employs Schwarzenegger's reputation to, in turn, then portray him as a father impotent to stop his daughter's inevitable death. Unfortunately as the movie develops, along with the character's sickness spread, it boringly conforms and undoes what it set out to do. Neither sensible enough to stand on its drama nor visceral. Still an interesting effort, especially from Arnie's part.

'Maggie' feels small because it is, so it's hard to discount it for not being the movie it clearly did not set out to be. It is moody, atmospheric, and features Arnold's best acting performance on the human end of the spectrum. It's a shame that Hobson steers clear of nearly every opportunity for some real suspense, but I marginally appreciated the film for the simple-minded drama that it is. Hopefully Arnold continues to take more risks like this.

Horrible and difficult to sit through. It doesn't bring anything new to the zombie genre. It's just full of fake resentment, fake tears and lots of moping about. It doesn't help that they employ this cheesy, artsy filmmaking style with its distracting edits and shot selections. Anyone who shoots movies like this needs to be thrown to the zombie wolves... As for Arnold, he just kind of blends in and disappears. I'm still pullin for his successful comeback.

Schwarzenegger gives an appropriately muted performance, but despite its technically proficient direction in atmosphere and tone, "Maggie" is too stagnant for its own good, breathing no new life into this tired sub-genre.

Ah-nold with zombies = sign me up. Ah-nold in this shit = huge letdown. This film is such a borefest snoozer, they could have easily named it "World War ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"

it's somewhat amusing, how lost arnold seems when he's surrounded by people who can actually act some, and he's not supposed to depict an emotionless robot with mixed up language settings. although, there were even moments when it almost worked, especially when he was limited to gestures or facial expressions. or when the movie focused on the girl and left him out altogether. sure, it was slow and dull at times, but it still was above average for contemporary schwarzenegger.

Not your regular zombie horror flick! And unfortunately that made it barely watchable for me. The acting is good but the story is slow and filled with very little action.

Soulfully suffering Arnie does not a memorable zombie movie make. First of all, goddamn is this arid, and stretched out, and boring to the point of near-agony. Second of all, what the hell's the point of it? Not nearly enough time is spent examining the relationship between Arnie and his afflicted daughter. It's just one morbid setpiece after another, and the movie quickly devolves into a study in self-conscious bathos.

A zombie flick about the 'feels'. Although it's genre is classed as 'Drama, Suspense/Thriller, Horror' - there isn't really any of them to be seen.

A little heavy on the introspective "family drama in the zombie apocalypse" side, and maybe it's true that, especially for fans of the zombie sub-genre this doesn't present too much that's new or hasn't been seen before. That being said, I enjoyed subdued Arnold, I thought the world was realistic and believable, and for what it's trying to be, I thought this was good. Could have been better, but still good. Also, I like the way this was shot; I'm seeing a lot of "amateurish" cries, but I dug it.

I will say that this is the first time I've seen Arnold on film and his acting has been of such a caliber that I forgot it was him. So there's that. Besides that there's not much to say about it. Unbelievably boring yet not exactly terrible. It really drags, and the cinematography and lighting alone could put you to sleep.

Nice little atmospheric zombie-drama. Probably would've been better with Considine/Moretz instead of Arnie/Breslin as originally planned, but it's quite watchable as is.

Props to Arnold for taking this role. It's nice to see him play outside of his comfort zone. I enjoyed this take on the "zombie" genre. It's dark, grim and manages to tell a story without splattering lots of blood and gore everywhere. I will warn that the film's slow pace may not be for everyone. I was pleased with the numerous moments of suspense relating to Maggie's transformation and especially in the final moments of the film. Satisfying cinematography. 3.5 STARS

Clichéd, flat writing, solid direction. Got too trivial and boring for my taste towards the end. So much potential for drama, which the movie wastes on overdramatizing the most benign things regarding this particular scenario. And that silly suspense thingy was really that. Silly. If this movie was a geometrical body, it would actually be two-dimensional.

WTF? Was the general idea of this movie to see how good Schwarzenegger can act without saying anything the whole movie? Was this all about the 'feel' you should get from the scenery and cinematography? Poor writing; only shows the writer and director are not qualified to make a good movie. This was time I could have spent watching a movie that matters ..

Maggie is a moody family drama, which just happens to be set in a world full of zombies. As Wade Vogel, a farmer desperate to look after his infected daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin), Arnold Schwarzenegger gets to attack the living dead but gives one of his more soulful performances. The daughter is showing zombie-like symptoms that go beyond the pains of adolescence. Breslin brings pathos to the teenager whose body is turning against her.

Zombie gore is kept to a minimum, a fact likely to disappoint you if you're for blood. It's a changed Schwarzenegger on view in Maggie, and the change becomes him. "

Kudos to Arnold, who has gotten much better at acting with age (and politics), and kudos to trying to do something slightly different with the zombie fad. Sadly it just isn't enough. Its oddly paced and too slow to be simply menacing, or a nice slow burn.

Solid acting by Schwarzenegger and an incredibly somber story are the only things keeping this afloat. A slow pace and not enough happening makes this rather blah. That said, it is a unique look into what a zombie flick can be.

Overall the concept for this movie is good: instead of hours you have 8 weeks before you become a full-fledged zombie. This movie endeavors to show us just how painful it is for that to happen to somebody you love. Unfortunately it tried to be too artsy: any time somebody was talking the camera was right up in their face, extended scenes of sunsets with the subject we're supposed to care about insignificant in the frame, handheld cameras which proved to be more shaky than intimate.

An interesting piece of curio, but that's about it. Breslin used to be a cute little girl, but the years and calories have not been kind to her. On the other hand, Schwarzenegger has only improved with age, giving, and it's hard to say this, the best performance of his life. Which is easy to do when you've only needed to look muscular for the majority of your previous roles. The bottom line here, though, is that the idea isn't really new, and the action is too sparse to make up for it.

They tried to create a tender story about love, disease, and sacrifice, but instead made a movie that is too slow and boring. There was a little action, but not enough to really make it worth watching. Music, film quality and performances were mostly unremarkable.

I am surprised how low is the predominant score given in the reviews here. It's a slow movie, it's low-budget, but you all know that even before the start of the film. Arnold hides some tears and he could be pushed more from the director, but overall it's a grim movie. It has only one scene that feels a bit out of place (the talk in the garage), but the rest is superb. Great shots, beautiful landscapes, the music is chilling and it's the closest thing we have to The Last of Us.

A zombie family drama starring Arnold Schwarzenegger?! That's something I didn't expect. And it's a movie one respects because it tries something different, but you can't deny it wasn't exactly handled all that well. Turns dull fairly quickly and the narrative is more focused on the ambiance then make anything happen. Strong mood-setting acting is a plus. If you where a kid gradually turning into a zombie, you'd want Schwarzenegger as your dad to protect you from the authorities.

Not an epic movie, but very interesting. More realistic and really could happen this way Zombie movie. Schwarzenegger plays a dad, who is trying his best to protect his daughter who had been infected with a disease that is very slowly turning her into a flesh eating zombie. One of Arnold's best work as an actual actor.

Arnie in a zombie movie? You must be kidding. But dead-serious, it's not so bad at all. My opinion here : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.com/2015/08/maggie-2015.html

Slow and effective with plenty of great acting from all involved. The script and directing are thoughtful but because the whole is so muted and reserved it kept me at a distance which rob the movie of a lot of it's emotional power. Amazing work from Schwarzenegger.

Schwarzenegger often gets overlooked for his acting skill, but he delivers a great performance as a farming father in the face of a zombie apocalypse. He provides just enough nuance to be the emotional anchor connecting you to each scene.

I can appreciate Arnie finding roles other than silly comedy or macho action stuff and the story has the ingredients to be interesting here. Unfortunately it is just way too slow and the feels are just not there even if the whole premise of the movie is centered on experiencing something. It's very pretty sometimes, though, even despite the often bleak tones of the environment. Somehow a storm was constantly rolling in each and every day but just never got there?

Maggie is trying very hard to be important and relevant, but I'm not buying it. This is Breslin's show, and Arnold isn't up for the task of supporting her, despite his attempts to brood like a leading man. There are no surprises in this somber slow burn, no heart wrenching details, only sadness.

Really slow storyline which doesn't align with Arnie's persona as an action hero.
