Pretty much ruined by Chevalier's voice-over. Would have been a different film if it had just been subtitiled.

René Clair returns to France with a nostalgic look back in time at the world of early silent cinema. With him he gets one of the most charming men of sound cinema, Maurice Chevalier, who hadn't done a film since before the war. The war years had not been kind to him and he was now looking old. The story didn't grab me much, but the film set surroundings certainly made things more interesting for the likes of me, and the characters did liven the place up.
