Man from Deep River

Surprisingly watchable.

Despite the deeply unpleasant real animal deaths in this, the most offensive aspect was still Rassimov's ridiculous dyed barnet. That aside, this is a lot tamer, if no less ludicrous, than the more notorious cannibal flicks that followed in its wake. There's some fake-looking gore and a load of nudity punctuated by a rather underwhelming love story and Blondie's assimilation into the tribe a la A Man Called Horse. Watchable, and Lenzi does a decent job, but probably only for fans of the genre.

Italian jungle flick that is part cannibal horror, part romance and part Mondo-style exploitation depictions of tribal customs. A weird combination that manages to stay decently entertaining throughout, mostly due to the (consistently naked) presence of Me Me Lai. Minimal cannibal stuff, but there seems to be tons of real animal killings, including a live goat getting beheaded. Mmmmm.

Too much romance, too little cannibalism. But still quite enjoyable.

Are you kidding me?! It makes Cannibal Holocaust looks like the Citizen Kane of cannibal movies.
