Surprisingly good movie where two leads work nicely together. Movie is also visual bliss.

Very cool French film

A meditation on memory, missed opportunities, and a desire for a life that seems so close to fruition, yet so far out of reach. I appreciate the central relationship--this is kind of a grown-up, non-fantasy version of Freaky Friday. But Leconte's insistence on highlighting actions and directing our eyes through many edits and close-ups gets annoying quickly. This is a movie about aging men--the form would do better to reflect that.

I liked this movie a lot. I have a few ideas about what happened in the end and it's a bit bothersome that it's somewhat open-ended, but it was still a well-written, thought-provoking film.

Really interesting character, dialoque driven movie about two very different men and what occurs when their lives intersect. Highly recommended.

Not much of a story, but the actors are good--this is going to sound weird, but I loved their faces.

Criminal learns poetry, teacher learns how to shoot a gun, yada yada, predictable ending. Didactic, derivative, kinda boring.

Engaging examination of regret and what might have been. Halliday and Rochefort are terrific as two very different men who strike up an unusual friendship, and the first 2 thirds of the film are pleasurable because of their philosophical discussions and flashes of dry humour. The last act has an surprising mirrored structure and takes a somewhat open-ended, almost magical turn. A little gem.

The plot is predictable but it's the way in which this simple story is depicted (acting/direction/pacing/mood), which propels it to a really great watch. Stylistically very different than many other movies, slightly depressing tone, Criticker works like a charm.
