Man vs Snake: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler
The story of Tim McVey, who in 1984 on a single quarter and over 44 hours of non-stop play was the first person in history to score over 1 billion points on a video game. This historic accomplishment led the City of Ottumwa to declare a civic day in his honor. 25 years later, when rumors of a higher score surface online, it calls into question everything Tim has believed for decades and forces him to make a decision: either set a new world record, or risk losing his legacy forever. Probably the nicest Tim McVey in America. The best part of these documentaries is when they show the people in the crowd and it's 20ish middle aged bad uncles. Billy Mitchell saying "Nibbler" is my new ring tone. Every single one of these movies are the same: Walter Day speaks crazy nonsense , Billy Mitchell waves his videogame dick, you feel good for your choices.

Even when Billy Mitchell is trying to be nice, he still comes off as an arrogant, pompous dickhead. Only a matter of time before a VHS tape of him getting 2 billion points on Nibbler surfaces.

Great video game documentary, very much in the vein of King of Kong and Chasing Ghosts. If King of Kong didn't exist, it might've made a bigger impression (they've got essentially the same plot, albeit Man vs. Snake doesn't have an all-time great villain), though on the other hand, knowing some of the cast of characters via that one made for fun times, too. Very charming animated illustrations throughout, though they were conspicuous by their absence in the middle portion of the film.

Obese American gamers, a nutty old guy in a referee outfit, and one swarthy Italian kickboxer. Not sure if this is a documentary or a wacky sitcom. "Tee-mothy, you gota the maca-rowni all over da Nibbler controls." "Erm, you know Enrico that your score is invalid because Tim grew up right around the corner from my game shop." "Walter, all I-a-want-a to do ees Nibble and master the art of Jujitsu, stopa breakin my balls." Got it NBC, fuckin pay me.

Perhaps the best documentary ever made about a rotund 40ish central Iowa worker drone. It's not as great as KING OF KONG but that's mainly because KING OF KONG is legit one of the greatest documentaries of this century and also because there are no bad guys here and not much conflict either. This movie likes everybody, even the ostensible antagonists. It's fun to watch and the subject matter continues to be irresistible, but it needed some conflict and maybe a bad guy or two.

This is an interesting look at an obscure video game and the people that are very good at that game. This film is entertaining all the way through the movie. I highly recommend this film.

Kind of like a "less bullshit" King of Kong. Man vs Snake is one of the fairest portrayals of gaming I've seen in a movie. That definitely counts for something, as many devolve into reductionist "look at the freakshow" shame reels. Depending on where your priorities lie, King of Kong's more manufactured narrative may result in a better movie. In terms of homage and accuracy, Man vs Snake is clearly the more heartfelt offering. And its own narrative is perfectly gripping as well.
