Mandalay

Decent but unspectacular little pre-Code drama that is not a bad way to fill an hour. There are some nice sweeping camera movements, but while it's competent there's not all that much to distinguish this early Curtiz movie.

A quality drama for Kay Francis where she gets to show off her singing! Very impressive voice. Dark and filled with personality. 3 numbers in total. You might think this was a musical, but it wasn't. It was one of those 'stuck in the middle of nowhere working in a sleazy bar' type films where men are bastards and the women get harder. Francis was great in her role looking all disgusted with herself. And it all comes together nicely in this too short (65 minutes) Francis vehicle.
