Some creepy atmosphere, crazy scenes and gore effects can't hide the fact that this is a complete boring mess of a story. The Dubbing is atrocious as expected. But the worst part is that not one person reacts to anything that happens in any kind of realistic manner.

If there was more power in the bizarre, more blood and bite in the deaths, I’d be all about this movie. It has Fulci’s trademark strangeness, trademark resistance to the normal confines of plot (even if it is soiled by the ridiculous stoicism of the characters), in fact to be short it has all his trademarks down to collaborating with Frizzi and Sacchetti, but is only missing his trademark gore

"You can take my life with stuffed birds, but you shall not have my immortal soul!" Though, sadly, even an awesome bit of dialogue like that didn't redeem the time I spent waiting for it. Try reimagining this flick as an episode of "Stargate: SG-Fulci" and it'll keep you going for that money line five minutes before the end credits on this taxidermied squawker. "Birds of darkness, consume me!"

Not one of Fulci's best, despite displaying a lot of the tropes that inhabit his better work. It feels really disjointed and messy, the characters neither behave like normal human beings nor speak like them, and some of the effects are woeful, I think that even if it was better made, the stuffy, boring story would still drag it down. Perhaps I was feeling a bit cranky when I saw this, but I don't feel any great desire to revisit it anytime soon.

Can't tell if we are dealing with a mysterious dream logic or convoluted incompetence. The absolute dread of that fucking Bob kid showing up.

Acid trips are more coherent than this. I'll openly admit that I clocked out of this mentally around the 30-40 minute mark, but I really don't think that matters much. This is the worst Fulci film I've seen by a good margin, & makes something like Aenigma seem much better by comparison. The plot is awful, the dialogue is awful, hardly anything actually happens, & the way it's put together is extremely confusing. Fulci himself disowned this, & it isn't hard to see why. It's garbage.

Shudder said this was inspired by The Exorcist (obviously), Poltergeist (yep) and Rosemary's Baby (um, what)? It's Fulci trying to make something different than his usual fare, alas budget cuts restricted him. Still worth a view, though.

Fulci directing an Exorcist clone and turning it into a slasher sounds amazing. Somehow all that potential is wasted in this boring thing. The nastiest scene is more The Birds than The Beyond. Needed more vomiting children uttering profanities and gory set pieces.
