echoes of soderbergh's SOLARIS (and BR2049?), another psychologically acute (echo-)chamber drama masquerading as high-concept sci-fi piffle. that film's memorable line--"i can't help but wonder if i remembered her wrong"--an ideal springboard into this suggestion that identity construction is an artistic process, editing the past so only the desired narratives survive. cinema as a creative negation of trauma, two idealised memories riffing on MARIENBAD and framed by a TV screen respectively.

What a profound examination on the elusive power and fragility of memory as we get older. Last shot is the most harrowing of 2017: three holograms talking about the suicidal son/brother that these three refused to talk about when they were alive. Remembering is also staging memories. Series of conversations shot with a clear, subtle sense of despair, emotion and patience with the deepness with orality.

A great exercise in how to take compelling subject matter and drain it of any life. Aesthetically decrepit in its placid frame compositions and flat lighting, it not only looks like an ABC television movie but contains about the same amount of passion through its overly clinical dissection of memory & identity. There are so many other psychological sci-fi films that properly utilize the medium of cinema for its unique properties; MP's stage origins are left far too bare for all to see.

Feels way too much like a play in its staging and writing but it's a really good and interesting play with a couple of fantastic performances so it gets a pass.

I liked the concept, actually teared up a bit at a couple points but that was mainly because the subject matter of getting old always hits me. Film was kind of slow, had a little trouble staying focused for parts.

A gimmick that only prolonged the lethargy, which was interspersed occasionally with sparks of interest.

Marjorie Prime is a chamber film that's more likely to put one to sleep than provide insight into anything of value. It's a dull watch that's only saved from being worthless by its acting and with a bit of thematic depth.

Poignant reflection on technology and narcissism and the visions of hope we might be able to receive even from that which we build and misuse. It also reflects on the nature of memory, its propensity to disintegrate over time, and the ironic way in which even false memories can bring comfort and solace to a person. I didn't find the clearly stage-oriented setting limiting--its isolation actually fits well with the themes of the film.

Almereyda's best since Happy Here and Now. His most stylistically unadorned work, but also his most nakedly emotional.

A lot of ellipses big as a melon water. Too much talk, in fact, I would not consider this as a Sci-Fi Drama because the first it is not highlighted enough to be considered such. It is just a Drama where Sci-Fi has its weight but that is all.

An interesting examination of family relationships, memory and aging, with a small sci-fi twist. You can feel the roots of the stage play this was based on.

An introspective, melancholic little film. It doesn't do much, and is a big patience tester. I see the artistic merit in its Black Mirror-lite premise, but it just doesn't have any fun, lacks rewatchability, and is not for me.

Top badass moment? Holograms of the three main characters all sitting around politely chatting to one another. Is it just me, or is that kind of fucked up? Set in the near future, this is a slow, sad film about the effect opening an Amazon account has on a woman called Marjorie and how her relationship with Alexa develops over time. (Actually, that would be a good plot for a movie.) I think you have to be quite intelligent to enjoy it; I loved it of course. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
