It didn't help that I had just watched Altman's wonderful 70s update of Phillip Marlow in The Long Goodbye, but... my god, what a drag. No-one involved seems particularly interested in what they're doing, with Neeson feeling almost catatonic. There is a through line in the film about knowing when to be to old for Hollywood, but I'm fairly convinced they didn't see the irony in this, when they made this film.

The few times Neeson has to get physical comes across really weak, but for the most part this is an okay noir. I like Neeson when he's just bombing around questioning people, and want him to do more roles like this. The dialogue does have some high moments, but the central mystery is bland, and this movie lacks the style and life that the great noirs have. There's going to be a lot of worse movies this year, but I'm disappointed by this one, while still enjoying it.

While there are some standout moments and choice dialogue, the cons of “Marlowe” far outweigh the pros. Viewers who love film noir may be disappointed by the stiff execution and miscast lead.

Slow moving with a lot of style. Perhaps more style than substance, but it's Marlowe (2022), so I have a appreciation for it. Liam Neeson, even if a little old for the part, is old enough to know what Marlowe stood for and I feel he holds his end up well.

I thought the casting of Neeson was odd, given his age and accent, but he pulls it off. Decent private investigator mystery in the old style. Not sure why they didn't include narration though.

I think this had a lot of potential as I enjoyed the plot and the twists and turns. I don't know a lot about the character of Philip Marlowe in other adaptations, but Neeson just isn't convincing in the action scenes. It really pulled me out of it when he easily overpowered people 40 years younger than him.
