Marmaduke
2010
Comedy, Family/Kids
1h 27m
When Phil and Debbie Winslow (comedy vets Lee Pace and Judy Greer) relocate from their native Kansas to the sunny climes of Orange County, their big-hearted, havoc-wreaking Great Dane (voiced by Owen Wilson) gets a taste of the dog's life, California-style. Featuring the voice talents of Emma Stone, Ron Perlman, Jeremy Piven, and Steve Coogan, this family comedy blends live action and CGI animation to bring America's most-beloved, if slobbery, comic-strip mutt to life.

In the tradition of cinematic masterpieces like Beverley Hills Chihuahua and The Smurfs, here we have a project clearly birthed in a coked-up studio executive's office. I would call this the worst possible Marmaduke movie, but now the 2022 animated version exists.

This film is bad in a way that hurts. Both soul and body. It is so bad that I had to re-rank films such as Sinbad, the 1990 television remake of Attack of the 40-ft woman and all the other films I had ranked 0, because this just needs to be ranked WORSE than everything else I have seen in my entire life. Not funny, not even without wanting to be. I saw the danish version, and the script was so shitty it left me utterly stunned. It used words I have never heard spoken. Avoid this film!

This is what you get when you take a bunch of little creatures (be it cats, dogs or little kids), make 'em wear sunglasses and all kinds of accessories and then tape when they bark, roll or say funny things you've told them to say. Then you have Owen Wilson, Kiefer Sutherland or that awful George Lopez dub it. My favorite line: "Marmaduke? More like ... Marmafake!" Burn!

I think one dog said he was a layer in his home land. Point for that.

I take back what I wrote in another review: THIS, not "Drillbit Taylor", is the perfect role for Owen Wilson, that of a big, goofy, dog.

What is the moral of this story? Only the elite can succeed. If you are not, put aside any aspirations for power because if even you got it you would be alone, bitter, resented and out of your depth. You probably conned your way to the top anyway and you'll be found out and ostracised soon. Instead, raise a family! Leave the running of things to the elite. and have a lovely trouble-free, content life. In short: Pedigrees will always win over mutts (an actual line in the film) Awful. Awful film.

The plot's simple, light and stereotypical, but still enjoyable.A minus-some computer effects are hurting eyes (and it's from 2010!).As screen times's passing by,I cannot help to compare this movie to the "Beethoven" and its sequel. The main difference is-now we can see a family life mainly from the dog's and not the owners' perspective. Also, the emphasis on problematical matters is put much more on the dog's problems.I'd say it's directed towards a little younger viewers (animals "talk" here, too).

I have no idea why I didn't hate this movie, I suppose I made it all the way through it and never actually hated anything in it, so I can't give it horrible marks.

This is a shameless guilty pleasure and that's all there is to it. Very bad, and oh so enjoyable.

Family comedy based on the comic strip, about a suburban family that relocates to a new neighborhood with their havoc-wreaking Great Dane. "...a congenial PG-rated animal comedy. If you like the comic strip, now in its 56th year, maybe you'll like it, maybe not. Marmaduke's personality isn't nearly as engaging as Garfield's.

"Marmaduke the movie is exactly the kind of mind-numbing kiddie trash that parents dread taking their kids to." - Simon Abrams

Marmaduke's owner is the guy from The Fall! Also, dog surfing.

Let's put it this way: Every "lesson" you'd expect to see in a kid's movie, you'll find in this one. However, since these are the same lessons I try to instill in my baby on a daily basis, I don't hate the movie for it. It was actually much better than I thought it would be, but seriously, don't go to see it unless you're with someone under the age of seven.

It's like off brand Beethoven. I like a dog movie don't get me wrong, but it isn't the same.
