Marrowbone

Alternately dull and overwrought supernatural/gothic horror film (with a tepid love triangle mixed in) is a lumpy, slightly seedy brew, hampered by a multitude of clanging red herrings, (the opening sequence particularly doesn't really "play fair"). Limp paraphrase of THE OTHERS is too overly derivative of virtually every millennial horror film, up to and including the 'mind-blowing' twist, which makes very little sense. The young cast perform well and do their best to elevate proceedings.

A good looking gothic horror flick, very well shot. the acting is pretty good all around, and the story is interesting throughout, even if the writing's a little cheesy in places. (Maybe Spoilers) The ending of the film was a little confusing, but somewhat possible I suppose, you don't have to jump through too many plot holes and it's an interesting ending. Enjoyed it all in all.

As others have noted, the horror here is incredibly slight, almost non-existent really. Outside of the general atmosphere, a few scarier images and the Gothic setting, it's more of a drama. With that said, if you separate yourself from what you assume it will be it's pretty good at what it does, with an emotional backbone that paid off. It's not something I will necessarily remember for years to come but it was a pleasant surprise.

Eerie drama with nice acting. The horror should’ve been either less, or more pronounced, as it’s by definition a horror film, but not very scary. The ending is fine, pacing isn’t too slow. Overall it’s good, but nothing too unique.

Well done but the Horror, in my opinion, should have been way more emphasized.

solid cast and direction add up to a solid movie, that takes its liberties with your suspension of disbelief, but in retrospect rewards with a couple of neat "aha"-moments. nothing that will stick with you for long, though.

I love watching films like this, with low expectations and then you are left with a big suprise when you find out the movies is really good. Original in it's own way even tough some elements of the story has been used since the beginning of horror movies.

Apparently España can produce neat emo-horror ditties like this in their sleep.

Marrowbone starts as a great coming of age adventure film and ends as an excellent horror thriller movie. At times it felt a little cheesy, but other than that the story line was masterful.
