(Maruhi) shikijô mesu ichiba

There's certainly a bit of an exploitative vibe to some of it but it's in service of a very interesting human drama and is indeed very well photographed. The lead performance, in particular, is excellent and she carries the film well. Her melancholy giddiness mixed with frustration and despair set the film's conflicted tone and the variety of secondary characters she comes in contact with further the depiction of a frustrated underworld to a bustling city in growing pains.
