Are you looking for greater insight into who or what Mary Poppins is? A story that doesn't copy the original beat for beat? Messages deeper than "family=good, banks=bad"? Antagonists with nuance or complexity? Any real innovation whatsoever? I think you know where I'm going with this.

Holy shit Dick Van Dyke. Fine I’ll have a frigid English bath with Mary Poppins. Fatal flaw, none of the songs are memorable at all, I just finished this and I couldn’t even hum a bar from it to save my life. I last watched the first film about twenty years ago and Baby a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go down be bop a Lula Julie Andrews shows her hooters off in S.O.B.

Way too long for what it is and full of junk that could easily be cut without affecting the story in any way. That whole Meryl Streep section? Pointless. Every song goes on for too long and the real world stuff all looks far too artificial for just being a street. Wasn't overly unpleasant at any one time, but I mostly just wanted it to end.

Mary Poppins Returns borrows so much from the original that I wondered what was the point? Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins is great. The songs are bland and forgettable. The Animated sequences I respect that they at least tried something a bit different here, but having the same Penguins dance along to the cast is a bit too much. Another problem with the movie is that it's too long. It feels like padding with not a good enough reason to exist. I was left disappointed and prefer the original movie.

It's really nothing more than a fun children's film. If I say anything further I'll feel bad for criticizing a gummy bear for not being a meal. However, since it's entered into critics' conversations, a few words: the exposition is clumsy and underwhelming, the plot is weakly delivered, and I wasn't particularly impressed by any of the disconnected musical numbers. Again, though: this is a fun movie, it's a harmless movie, and it'll be a hit with children.

All the orchestral swells and whimsical animation can't save this emotionally hollow remake pretending to be a sequel. It's very telling that, for me, the lone high point of the movie was when Dick Van Dyke showed up for 5 minutes.

It is almost too derivative of the original film to stand firmly on its own, but Mary Poppins Returns manages to delight and please without marring the image of its beloved predecessor.

Utterly captivating sequel handily bests the original thanks to Marshall's nimble staging and buoyant direction, and far more liberated work from its excellent cast, headed by a magnificent Blunt whose sly, droll performance makes the character far more involving and endearing than Andrews' attempt. Perhaps surprisingly, the score never rests on the hits of the original, but creates its own delightful melodies. Fun cameos from Lansbury and Navckid Keyd are the icing on a very delicious cake.

Taken on its own terms, Mary Poppins Returns is almost charming enough to squeak by (although it comes off as a terribly mawkish imitation when compared with the ‘64 original). Unfortunately, its constant (and irritatingly artificial) nods to its predecessor largely prevents it from being viewed as anything other than a shadow of what came before. There are some individually delightful sequences, but not enough to sustain the feature. I’ll stick with Paddington 2, thanks.

[Watch at home] This is pretty much a beat-for-beat recreation of the original. Starts with family in trouble, Poppins shows up, there's a cleanup song/event, etc. There are so many callbacks to the origininal that you really need to see that first. I've always thought Marry Poppins was okay and this one is a touch less magical. Still fun, just temper expectations.

Mary Poppins' legacy is undeniable, but it would have been more comforting if Disney didn't use the sequel to merely follow the plot of the original beat by beat. It's a beautiful film made by talented people without any of the life that the original had.

Exceedingly well-crafted on every level. However one of the things it does exceedingly well is feel like a throwback to a time when Disney's children's musicals were made exclusively for children. There are no winking jokes for the older crowd and worse, no uncertainty about any character or plot twist to keep things interesting. There's also never a moment where you feel things could possibly turn out badly. Lots of songs about arbitrary topics too. But I assume that's how the original was.

It doesn't feel like a fluid movie, its songs are forgettable and the importance of Mary Poppins is severely underwritten. Jack, an incredibly annoying, awfully-accented character has too much screentime. Watched: 2-Jan-19

It's a "fine" film but it just feels so Disney at times, I wouldn't say it's cringe-worthy, but it's not far from it. The Oscar-nominated song is definitely deserving of its recognition and along with Emily Blunt, provide some highlights. The most annoying/disappointing element was definitely Lin-Manuel Miranda, who I love, but is miscast in this film. Otherwise, it's a fluffy feel-good film that's all together forgettable in the end.

I like Emily Blunt's Mary Poppins and think this film does a good job keeping to the spirit of the original without feeling like just a bunch of mimicry. Still, it is not a film that feels at all revolutionary or necessary.

Saw this dubbed in Norwegian with my young nieces. The songs were absolute tosh and the dialog eked its way to "passable" at certain intervals. Only thing that managed to survive the Norwegian mangling was the indestructible charm of Emily Blunt. Hard to judge the real merits of the movie, but my nieces really liked it. I was bored after 30 minutes.

It's a very gimmicky movie. Mary's mannerisms (although Emily Blunt's timing is pure gold), every story/emotional beat, the songs, their messages, the themes, balloon lady, Lin-Manuel Miranda, everything feels like it's supposed to remind you of Mary Poppins, instead of actually reminding you of or feeling like Mary Poppins. It's like they forgot that Mary Poppins is a fun and playful film. There's really no-one I could recommend this movie to. Except people who like boring things.

Emily Blunt played a nice Mary Poppins. But there was nothing that felt inspired. I didn't mind that it copied a lot from the original, but it just felt like walking through the motions. I'm sure I would have felt differently if I cared for the music, but not one of the songs was catchy or good or memorable. Seriously, Criticker user reading this review, try to sing more than 3 words of a song from this movie. I'll wait.

Mary Poppins was so good, Disney straight up made the movie a second time. The segments of the original are repeated almost beat by beat. You could say the movie is terribly unimaginitive. None of the beats reach the height of the original but the movie is still somewhat entertaining, even if Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda carry the entire project on their shoulders. But the payoff of the tuppence scene from the original is extraordinairy.

I'm no fan of the original, and this one is better, but it's still an exhausting, overlong, underwhelming, single-faceted colourful-lights-and-loud-noises kind of blockbuster. There's pretty much zero humour, very little wit, and it's reiterating the same themes from this year's earlier Christopher Robin, but not as clever. The animation sequences are the highlights and they clearly represent Disney at their best, but the choreography is unmemorable, as are the songs. Nifty set design, I guess.

I know this is PG but damn. The only bright parts about it are Emily Blunt, who steals every scene, and the fact that Dick Van Dyke is thankfully only in it for 4 or 5 minutes. This from the director of "Chicago", ouch.

I don't think I've ever used this personally as a descriptive phrase, but... this is easily the feel-good movie of the year for me! This may legitimately be the most Disney movie that I've seen in years. This thing drowns in Disney dust and it's (for the most part) glorious and unashamed in that. Emily Blunt is thoroughly spectacular. LMM delivers, with the exception of his overdrawn dance number during "Trip A Little Light Fantastic". No sense of any real stakes here, but I couldn't care less.

All things considered, it was pretty decent. My main problem is that it's kind of just a remake pretending to be a sequel. Otherwise, it was fairly delightful. Lots of lovely, fun, heartwarming scenes. I never really bought Blunt as Poppins, but I don't know if I could ever accept anyone else in the role other than Andrews. The rest of the cast was largely good. I didn't love it, but I did have a good time, and it was definitely a good effort in recreating the magic of the original.

A cute little nostalgia-fest to the movies of old. Some catchy songs which would probably become more catchy the more one hears them, but no classics. Sadly, none of the original songs appear in this movie. Was hoping for a special appearance by Julie Andrews, but sadly that was a no-go. Dick Van Dyke, however, does make a brief visit to the movie.

There is something as too many songs in a musical. Thin-plotted, it felt like they simply took a Disney stage musical and put it on screen with very little added except for a fun bathing sequence and a nicely done animation bit. Emily Blunt had to be a caricature the entire time, so they didn't even bother to attempt to Julie Andrews her. I did enjoy it as a flashback piece. Nostalgia. Tribute to a great picture. The numbers were well done, a few of them catchy. Full of color, grandness of old.

The cinematic equivalent of a classic band reforming years later with competent and enthusiastic musicians in place of the original members. They play well and sound good, and you could get lost in the moment until the knawing feeling that something intangible is missing kicks in, then the spell is broken. This film casts no spells, but it's a sincere and respectful tribute to the 60's classic that features impressive sequences that blend live action and animation quite seamlessly.

Empty retread of the wonderful original. Every time I heard pieces of the original score I felt a little sad. The highlights were the cameos by Angela Lansbury & Dick Van Dyke. There was no reason for there to be villains in the movie and everything just went a little too far like they tried too hard without really understanding what made the first one so special.

Sihirli dadı iş başında. Bu kez yeni 3 küçük çocuğa hayalinde göremediği maceralara götürüyor. Güzel bir renk cümbüşü yapılmış efektler. Fazla hızlı konuşma tekniği burada göze batıyor. Ayrıca şarkılar inanılmaz baskın. Filmin sonundaki balon sahnesine bayıldım. Fakat senaryo zaafları da çok. Hisse senedi ne diye uçurtmaya yapıştırırsın? Zalak oğlan.

Blimey, Mary Poppins really is creepy, isn't she? With that out of the way, this movie has some cool shots, but the plot was way too predictable and with an almost cartoonish bad guy. All of which I could have forgiven in exchange for some memorable songs, but it didn't have a single one.

I honestly can't properly remember the original, having seen it once during my childhood. Mary Poppins Returns is well-cast, well-acted and moderately entertaining albeit shallow in terms of its plot. There are moments where the film lingers on a shot, as if to applaud itself for a reference. Its only message is to embrace childhood, and even that is qualified with "the adults will forget by tomorrow". Ultimately, neither the songs nor plot are memorable; an inoffensive throwback.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. We watched the original some time ago, and it struck me very much as a product of it's time: overlong and outdated in many aspects, but the fantasy scenes were still effective. This one updates the whole thing quite beautifully and visually it's top notch; both the period setting as well as the fantasy scenes. The characters are also more modern. It's a well made family film that should appeal to new audiences as well as fans of the original.

Blunt performs admirably, echoing Andrews, but producing something distinct of itself. The original rarely gets criticism for being an overlong, meandering mess, which this is also, although perhaps less so than the original. The final third doesn’t work at all, with characters shortchanged & the story phoned-in; which is a shame as the foundations laid in the first 2 acts had so much potential. A good chop in the editing room & braver script decisions would have seen this a much better film.

I was led to this movie, which served as the culmination of a three day mescaline trip, and was incalculably valuable to me strictly in the context of a singular mystical experience, which journey took me through many unexpected twists and turns. Despite this fact, the film itself is nothing more than detestable, escapist nonsense, one of the significant aspects of said experience being a great awareness of how obscene is this Mary Poppins character.
