Romantic drama. In 1939, as the air raid sirens sound over Moscow, a young man, Alyosha, falls in love with a telegraph operator called Mashenka. When she discovers he is ill, she watches over him. This romance at the dawn of war was done with such simplicity, it was surprising I fell in love with it the say I did! Real beautiful, and I won't deny that Valentina Karavayeva in the title role was a big reason for that. A fine example that Soviet propaganda didn't have to be pushed down everybody's throat to be effective.
