I loved this movie as a kid.

Quirky and funny.

One of the true gems of the 90s'; Danny DeVito's directing can be hit and miss, but here is a sure fire hit embedded in the minds of every boy and girl who had the good fortune to grow up in the 90s. Beautifully adapted from Roald Dahl's eponymous book [maintaining as much of Dahl's trademark darkness as his charm and humour], this film is a real treat! Watch it, or you'll end up in the Chokey!

more generous for kid movies, though I'd think it risks being way more popular for kids between 7 and 12 years old who like reading. The action, imagination, and sets and costumes can still interest the others. The principal makes for an unusual but good "bad guy" for a kid movie. Watching as an adult, one both appreciates and is more shocked by the parents.

A good kids film and good adaptation of the book. Danny DeVito is surprisingly good for it as the father and narrator.

I enjoyed it. It's a great movie. Just don't take the story too literally. Everything is symbolizing how authoritarian people work in society.

I really don't like Dahl's writing, but I quite enjoyed this movie. Everyone seems perfectly cast. I mean my GOD, Pam Ferris alone as the Trunchbull is worth the watch.

When I was a kid I thought Matilda was an bratty jerk and I wanted to fight her.

Matilda is fun, but predictable. The good characters are good, maybe too much so and the bad are impressively bad. You know that good is going to triumph in a movie like this. If you like that kind of movie you'll enjoy the odd, over-the-top, but fantastic take on Dahl's Matilda. If you don't, then the movie will probably not be your favorite.

A very funny movie of an intelligent young girl in a very un educated family and as she discovers to have special powers that she will use against her school principal to give back what she took from her teacher.
