Max Steel

Not nearly as bad as some people would have you believe, but "Max Steel" is also about as vanilla a superhero story as you can get with as little world building as the writer could muster. In the age of the superhero renaissance, "Max Steel" has more in common with cheesy superhero movies of the 90's than the mega-budget ones of the 2010's. If "Logan" gives you a boner, "Max Steel" won't give you a steel boner, more likely erectile dysfunction.

The visual effects are good, otherwise I found it pretty average and not tremendously interesting or compelling. It's not bad though, if you want a mildly entertaining sci fi movie you could definitely do worse.

Trash, that starts off poorly, then just keeps getting worse. Poor Andy Garcia, that ending scene took a massive dump on any dignity he has left. The characterisation of the alien is like from a completely different movie. Which is also what you should be watching instead.

The kid is so f*ckin stupid.

It somewhat succeeds as a Sci-fi adventure, but overall it fails to satisfy. The young actor spends a lot of time yelping and groaning. The big fight scene was unsatisfying. Animation and special effects are mostly good. It was not entirely awful, and I might really like this if I was 10 years old.

I found it pretty okay. The ending was a bit... problematic... but as a whole, I thought it was more generic and unremarkable than awful.

Not that good. Started out OK, got slow somewhere halfway, got a little better then ended badly. I'm glad I didn't know anything about this movie (like the poster or trailer) before I started watching 'cause then it'd been even worse.
