As someone who doesn't "get" high fashion, solely from of my own ignorance, I think this doc did a great job at explaining what made McQueen exceptional.

I am no fan of fashion, but I still liked this film quite a bit. McQueen is a fascinating individual. Very well done.

Beautifully crafted doco which, like all the best documentaries, does a fine job of highlighting why fashion designer McQueen deserves to take his place in the pantheon of artists, even to those for whom the fashion industry may as well be a foreign language! Can't escape the overly glowing and saintly portrait of its subject and his industry that mars most 'authorised' pieces, but on its own terms a fascinating and ultimately poignant, closely observed portrait.

Although it feels like any other hagiographic doco and McQueen himself is a pretty ordinary bloke (in an enjoyable way), I was rather floored less by the dresses he designed and more by the art installation approach he took to showcasing these dresses. Could've delve further into his collaborations with celebrities, such as David Bowie and Bjork, but there's still a wealth of jaw-dropping and gasp-inducing material for this doco.

There could probably be more in terms of depth but some of the fashion moments are so beautiful and the people's stories so good it doesn't matter all taht much in the end.

What an absolute talent. Fascinating and extremely well put together. I have the same conflict as "Amy" of the body bag media shot, such bad taste but almost essential for the documentary? Just makes me feel uneasy.

An interesting portrait of a gifted and driven man who made his mark in an industry that is baffling, absurd and fantastical in equal measure.

As life would have it, I can tell Alexander McQueens apart from Tom Fords without ever having interest in fashion, so it is interesting to learn the story behind overpriced t-shirts with skulls and crow shadows on them. Interesting story, but it's hard to see it as anything but a memorial that can't but paint an always positive picture of the man.

I know Michael Nyman is an old friend, but his strings are mostly obtrusive and unhelpful this time around - the tension in McQueen's career and in his head would communicate well enough alone. Yet if you know nothing about the designer, here's a primer on how artful, devastating, and full of life and regret the fashion world can be. His shows are shocks every time.
