Bill Paxton was very believable as the despicable father and corrupt cop in this drama. The whole thing had a gritty and realistic feel and two young talented actors starred.

Middling lovers-on-the-lam drama is redeemed and strengthened by evocative and atmospheric cinematography, and fine performances from its relatively unknown cast; Paxton is reliably slimy as a corrupt lawman, but he (like the film itself) often feels too sanitised and restrained, becoming almost TV movieish at times. Also doesn't help that this same basic story has been told numerous times before (BADLANDS, et. al).
